Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may be one of the most radical left-wing members of the Democratic Party, but Democrat leaders are far from conservative.
On Monday, however, the New York congresswoman claimed otherwise, arguing that the party calling for taxpayer-funded abortions on demand is “center-conservative,” PJ Media reports.
“The Democratic Party is not a left party, the Democratic Party is a center, or center-conservative party,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a Blackout for Human Rights event in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
“We can’t even get a floor vote on ‘Medicare for All,’ not even a floor vote that gets voted down,” she continued. “We can’t even get a vote on it, so this is not a left party. There are left members inside the Democratic Party that are working to try to make that shift happen.”
Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC, could not be more wrong. The Democratic Party, though not close enough to embracing a socialist agenda as she would like, has grown increasingly radical and out of touch with Americans on abortion.
The party platform supports unrestricted abortions up to birth and calls for taxpayer-funded abortions. It supports the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood and opposes even moderate restrictions on the killing of unborn babies. In 2019, Democrats in Congress blocked a bill to protect babies who survive abortions from infanticide more than 80 times.
The party’s leading presidential candidates also are examples of this left-wing extremism. All of them, including Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg, support unrestricted abortions up to birth and want to force taxpayers to pay for them.

Few Americans share this viewpoint. Polls consistently show that most Americans oppose most abortions and want to see meaningful protections for unborn babies, especially in the third trimester. A 2019 Gallup poll, for example, found that 60 percent of Americans want all or almost all abortions to be illegal.
A number of polls have found strong opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions as well. In 2019, a poll from the Public Religion Research Institute, which slants left, found that 48 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer-funded abortions through Medicaid, while 46 percent support it.
Ocasio-Cortez is not happy with her party for different reasons, but Americans should not be happy either. Democrats are embracing an increasingly extreme pro-abortion agenda that does nothing for women and children and everything for the billion-dollar abortion industry.
