While promoting her new album, pop singer Dua Lipa said she “won’t shy away” from promoting abortion even though it “does wind people up.”
The 24-year-old British singer is known for the hit song “New Rules.” Her next album comes out in 2020, and she does not plan to avoid controversial political topics anytime soon, The Dickson Post reports.
She told Billboard that she wants to advocate for women.
“I spoke about like women in Saudi Arabia and the rights and the things that happen or like if I’m supporting different charities and talking about certain things, especially women protesting about women’s rights…” the singer said.
“It does wind people up. I think that the whole abortion rights as well, that definitely kicked up a fuss…I’m never going to shy away from that, and I feel like I have to be a voice for my audience as well because they gave me that platform for that reason,” she insisted.

Earlier this summer, Dua Lipa joined fellow celebrities Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and others in signing an open letter supporting abortion on demand in the United States, according to the BBC. Planned Parenthood, a billion-dollar abortion chain, organized the celebrity campaign.
Advocating for abortion does not help women, though. The United States has some of the most liberal abortion laws in the world, and some states allow unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth. Few ban sex-selection abortions that target unborn baby girls, and pro-abortion lawmakers even are stripping away basic health and safety regulations that ensure abortion facilities are at least protecting women.
Celebrities who advocate for abortion are helping the abortion industry, not women. Instead, they should use their voices for good by speaking out for the rights of all women, including those not yet born.
