The connection between abortion and abuse is something even abortion activists will readily admit to.

But they often fail to recognize that the abortion is not a solution to the abuse but a perpetuation of it.

Many women and girls report feeling pressured or forced into aborting their unborn babies by an abuser.

This week, the Dallas Morning News reported about a case where an Ellis County man sexually abused a young girl and then took her to a Planned Parenthood for an abortion when she became pregnant.

According to the report, Paul Jon Flanigan, 37, of Midlothian, Texas, was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Tuesday for the sexual abuse of a young girl starting when she was 11 years old.

Here’s more:

Authorities began investigating after Flanigan took the victim, then 12, to a Planned Parenthood location in Dallas in an attempt to get an abortion in November 2018.

The girl told forensic interviewers that Flanigan had been molesting her since she was 11 and that he had continued until he discovered that she was pregnant.

After the girl gave birth in February, a DNA test confirmed that Flanigan was the infant’s father, authorities said.

Fortunately, the girl was not forced into aborting her unborn baby. Others, however, have been less fortunate.

Last week, police arrested a California man for allegedly forcing his girlfriend at gunpoint to take abortion drugs to kill their unborn child.

In the fall, the pro-abortion news site Mother Jones reported on a similar incident. According to the report, federal authorities caught a New York City woman selling abortion drugs online after a Wisconsin man allegedly bought drugs from her and then secretly slipped them into a pregnant woman’s drink. Both the man and the seller are facing charges.

A Virginia doctor was convicted of a similar crime in 2018 after he spiked his girlfriend’s drink with abortion drugs to kill their unborn baby.

The March of Dimes reports one in six abused women reports the first abuse occurred while she was pregnant.

Several studies also have linked domestic violence to abortion. In these cases, some women were forced or pressured by partners into having abortions, while others believed having an abortion would help them escape abuse. A 2011 study in “Obstetrician and Gynaecologist” found that almost 40 percent of the women seeking abortions had a history of physical abuse and relationship issues.

As LifeNews previously reported, another study found that as many as 64 percent of post-abortive women say they felt pressured to have an abortion.
