Hey Nancy Pelosi, Where is Your “As a Catholic” When 61 Million Babies are Killed in Abortion?

“As a Catholic” are empty words when they come from the lips of Nancy Pelosi.

The Democrat House Speaker from California often touts her Catholic faith when it is beneficial to her political career, but she does not practice it. Under her leadership, Congress has pushed pro-abortion legislation and weakened religious freedom for Catholics and others.

Writing at Israel National News, Rabbi Dov Fischer, an adjunct law professor in California and fellow at the Coalition for Jewish Values, sympathized with devout Catholics who are frustrated by Pelosi.

“What it must feel like to be a devout Catholic in America, yet to be subjected 24/7/365 on the mainstream media to a long line of leading American liberal Democrat opinion makers who cloak their support for … abortion, and so much else of that nature in their Catholicism,” Fischer wrote.

Pelosi’s most recent “As a Catholic” remark particularly irked Fischer and others.

Last week, a journalist asked if her real motivation for the impeachment hearings is that she “hates” President Donald Trump.

“I don’t hate anybody,” Pelosi replied angrily. “This is about the Constitution of the United States and the facts that lead to the president’s violation of the oath of office. And as a Catholic, I resent your using the word hate in a sentence that addresses me.”

She also claimed that she prays for Trump.

Fischer described what went through his mind when he heard her comments:

“My goodness!” I thought to myself. “How utterly frustrated, bemused — even furious — sincerely devout Catholics must feel listening to this cheap politician, who represents billionaires in a district teeming with homeless, cloaking her hatred for President Trump in Catholic fabric!”

Which part of her devout “As a Catholic” devotion leads Nancy Pelosi to be a leader in promoting abortions, gay marriage, and the Obama-Democrat agenda she shepherded?

Where was this “As a Catholic” when the Little Sisters of the Poor were fighting their way to the Supreme Court of the United States, seeking SCOTUS protection in Zubik v. Burwell, 136 S. Ct. 1557 (2016), from Pelosi’s Obamacare that forced the nuns, against their Catholic faith, to provide birth control contraceptives to employees? (I know where I was. Together with my Orthodox rabbinical colleagues Rabbi Steven Pruzansky and Rabbi Mitchell Rocklin, we submitted an amicus curae brief with the Court in support of the Catholic nuns.)

More than 61 million unborn babies have been aborted in America since Roe v. Wade, and nearly 1 million continue to be aborted each year. True Catholics believe that every baby’s life is valuable, from conception to natural death, but Pelosi’s actions directly contradict this teaching.

Pelosi consistently opposes pro-life legislation – even minimal protections for babies in the womb. More than 80 times this year, Pelosi blocked a House bill that would protect newborns who survive abortions from infanticide.

Pelosi has been more faithful to the abortion industry than she has to her faith, even going so far as to call late-term abortions “sacred ground.” As Speaker of the House, she has attempted to dismantle the pro-life policies of the Trump administration and restore funding cuts to Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses. Pelosi has close ties to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America.

Under her leadership, religious freedom also has been compromised, and Catholic charities like the Little Sisters of the Poor are involved in expensive, years-long legal battles to defend their right to practice their beliefs.

Even non-Catholics see through Pelosi’s charade, the rabbi noted, “because there are the others who not only follow the dogma and teachings of Catholicism but who actually do live it as it is theologically constructed, and they promote their faith prominently and proudly.”
