Jonah is one of the many reasons why Congressman Chip Roy is pro-life.

On Thursday, the Texas Republican told a U.S. House committee how one of his staff members, Jonah, could have been aborted, according to the Washington Examiner.

Roy said doctors told Jonah’s parents that they should consider having an abortion after he and his twin were diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

“In the winter of 1996, a couple went in for a checkup. They were excited. They were recently informed they had twins,” the congressman said.

Roy said the doctor conducted several tests and concluded that Jonah and his brother had the genetic disorder and likely would die within hours of their birth.

“’I would recommend termination,’ said the doctor. The couple said the first thing that came into their mind, ‘No,’ and walked out. They chose life,” he said.

“Those twins would grow up to become excellent men. I know this because Jonah works for me. Right here. He is one of my staffers,” he said.

Roy said he shared the story to help people understand that abortions destroy the lives of babies with potential – “excellent” people like Jonah who deserve a right to life.

Since Roe v. Wade in 1973, approximately 61 million unborn babies have been aborted in America. But every year, abortion rates are dropping as more women recognize the value of their unborn babies, and more women are empowered to choose life because of the vast and growing support offered by the pro-life movement.
