The Knights of Columbus honor unborn babies both in life and death.

The Catholic fraternal organization is well-known for supporting mothers and babies in need by donating ultrasound machines to pregnancy resource centers, volunteering and more.

But when unborn babies do become victims of abortion, the Knights of Columbus are there for them, too.

Aleteia reports a local chapter of the organization set up a gravestone Nov. 2 in Belleville, Ontario in memory of the unborn babies who were aborted.

The memorial to the unborn is just one of 137 that local Knights of Columbus chapters have established throughout North America, according to the report.

The Belleville memorial includes a carving of a baby in the womb, scripture and an epitaph that reads “In memory of all victims of abortion.” The scripture verse is Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I consecrated you.”

On Nov. 2, 18 members of the local charity and their families gathered at the St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery in Belleville for the placement of the gravestone, the report states.

The National Post reports local abortion activists learned about the monument and organized a protest a few weeks later. They claimed the gravestone is “attacking a women’s right to choose.”

David Cameron, grand knight of the Belleville chapter, said the memorial is not political; it is meant to honor babies who never were given a chance at life.

“We’re not engaging in any sort of debate about it,” Cameron told the Post. “This is our belief and we don’t feel we’ve done anything wrong … it speaks for itself.”

About 100,000 unborn babies are aborted every year in Canada. In May, Canadian pro-lifers mourned 50 years of legalized abortion on demand in the country.
