A Wisconsin man is facing homicide charges after he allegedly bought abortion drugs illegally and slipped them into his pregnant ex-girlfriend’s drink to kill her unborn child.
Jeffrey Smith, of Wisconsin Rapids, is scheduled to stand trial Jan. 14, 2020, WSAU News reports. His charges include attempted first-degree homicide of an unborn child and felony manufacturing or delivering of prescription drugs.
The woman, who is not named in reports, was 20 weeks pregnant when Smith allegedly attempted to abort her unborn baby. She later told police that Smith was pressuring her to have an abortion.
In late January 2018, the woman said she thought Smith spiked her water bottle with an abortion drug while she was in the bathroom; later that evening, she noticed “residue” in the bottom of her water bottle and did not drink it.
According to police, she brought the bottle to authorities after Smith left, suspicious that he may have been trying to kill her unborn baby. Police said the tests that they conducted found mifepristone, an abortion drug, in the water.
Authorities also obtained text messages from Smith allegedly urging the woman to abort the baby. According to authorities, he wrote, “it’s for the best,” “you take a pill…They watch you do it. It’s that simple. Side affects [sic] are virtually 0.” However, she refused.
Police also found a package labeled mifepristone in Smith’s house after the incident, according to the report. In the United States, mifepristone and misoprostol often are used together for abortions in the first trimester.
The local news reports Smith is the father of the child.
Smith allegedly bought the abortion drugs from Ursula Wing, 41, of New York City, who allegedly was selling abortion drugs illegally over the internet. The Daily Register reports Wing also is facing charges. In August, she pleaded not guilty to charges of misbranding a prescription drug and conspiracy to defraud in federal court.
Authorities said Wing sold the abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol using an online jewelry business as a front. U.S. law requires that the abortion drugs be prescribed and distributed by a licensed physician.

The abortion drugs are not safe for women or their unborn babies, especially when taken without a medical professional. Dozens of women have died along with their unborn babies after taking the drugs, and even a Planned Parenthood study found that at least one woman is seriously injured from the abortion drugs daily.
Despite myriad concerns about abuse and safety, there is a concentrated push by abortion activists to expand access to the deadly drugs.

In 2018, Dr. Sikander Imran was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to fetal homicide. In 2014, a Florida man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he allegedly tricked his pregnant girlfriend into taking abortion drugs that killed their unborn baby.
Many pro-life advocates are concerned that these abuses could grow worse if abortion activists succeed in forcing pharmacies to dispense abortion drugs or allowing them to be distributed by mail-order.
