Joe Biden Tries to Win Over Catholic Voters, But He Supports Abortions Up to Birth

Joe Biden is trying to win over Catholic voters while quietly clinging to his party’s increasingly radical pro-abortion agenda.

He recently spoke at a Catholic college in Dubuque, Iowa, touting the faith that he does not practice in his bid for the Democratic nomination.

“Catholic voters could be a deciding factor in whether Democrats win the White House in 2020. And Biden, a 76-year-old Catholic educated by nuns in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is making an overt attempt to win them back,” Bloomberg reported after Biden’s speech.

Biden claims to be Catholic and gives the impression of being a moderate Democrat, but his stance on abortion is completely out of touch with both his faith and the American people. In June, he even announced that he now supports forcing taxpayers to fund elective abortions.

Here’s more from the report:

Biden’s approach is a softer sell. He has no official Catholic outreach — or any religious outreach, for that matter. He’s careful to say that he doesn’t seek to impose his religious views on anyone, or make them the basis of public policy. He supports abortion rights, which prompted a priest in South Carolina to refuse him the sacrament of Holy Communion last week.

And yet Biden’s Catholic identity is at the heart of his campaign.

“He practices his faith. He doesn’t proselytize,” said campaign manager Greg Schultz, who is also Catholic. “People see that.”

One woman told Bloomberg that one of the local priests in Iowa said he would not have refused Biden communion – a controversy in and of itself. But there is no question that Biden’s position on the value of human life is openly defiant of the Catholic faith. That is why the South Carolina priest refused to serve him communion earlier this fall.

Biden’s presidential health care plan would expand abortions by codifying Roe v. Wade into federal law and prohibiting states from passing even moderate restrictions that protect unborn babies from late-term abortions. It also would force insurance companies to cover abortions as “essential” health care under Obamacare.

In direct opposition to Catholic teachings about the sanctity of human life, Biden said he also would force American taxpayers to fund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers by restoring the cuts President Donald Trump made to their funding.

Biden has a strong pro-abortion voting record that goes back for many years. He also supported President Barack Obama’s leadership as the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history.

As the vice president, he supported the administration’s pro-abortion policies, including Obamacare, which forced religious employers to pay for drugs that may cause abortions. Catholic nuns still are fighting in court to not be forced to violate their beliefs.

Biden’s positions defy Catholic teachings and jeopardize the rights of millions of Americans.

In September, Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, wrote an open letter to Biden urging him to live by his faith and protect every human life.

“Nobody can or should force you to be a Catholic, and nobody can or should force you to be a defender of legal abortion. But you cannot be both at the same time,” Pavone wrote. “To claim to do so is an insult to all of us who proclaim and strive to live the Catholic Faith. And it invites the criticism that your public identification as a Catholic, while carrying water for the abortion industry, is simply the crass politics of seeking the money and votes of both constituencies.”

He asked Biden to either “conform your conduct to the Church to which you claim to belong, or acknowledge that you no longer belong to it.”
