A brave single mother’s decision to choose life for her unborn son after a devastating cancer diagnosis resulted in a miracle.
In July, Jade Devis, 36, gave birth to a healthy baby boy after undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy, Fox News reports.
“My baby boy is my miracle child,” Devis said. “It is surreal to remember that my pregnancy had an element of extraordinary fear. I am blessed when I look at my son, and I cannot ask for more than that.”
Devis told Loma Linda University Health News that she discovered a hard lump on her breast in March and went to the doctor. She said the radiologist told her that it was likely just a symptom of her pregnancy, but she asked for a biopsy anyway.
The test revealed that she had a rare form of cancer, State 2 triple negative breast cancer. According to the report, the aggressive cancer frequently spreads to other organs, necessitating immediate treatment.
Though the reports are not clear, it appears Davis may have been offered an abortion soon after her diagnosis.
“I did not know how I felt about the pregnancy until I was told I should not continue my pregnancy,” Devis said. “That is when something rose up inside of me — I wanted to keep my baby because I would not allow a stranger to tell me my child’s fate.”

She said her concern throughout the next several months and the multiple cancer treatments always was for her unborn child. First, Devis underwent a lumpectomy, fearing the general anesthesia would hurt her baby boy, according to the report. Then, she began chemotherapy under the close monitoring of the university cancer center’s doctors.
In July, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Bradley, the report states.
While caring for her newborn son, Devis also is continuing cancer treatments, which are slated to end in November, the report states.
She praised the hospital medical team for lifting her spirits and giving her and her son a chance at life together.
Her courageous story is one of many. LifeNews has reported numerous stories about mothers who chose life for their unborn babies after being diagnosed with cancer. Most of the mothers survived the cancer, while a few sacrificed their lives for their babies.
Research provides growing hope for mothers in these difficult situations. In 2012, a collection of stories from The Lancet found pregnant women do not need to have an abortion to get treatment for cancer. Similarly, a 2015 study in the New England Journal of Medicine found chemotherapy may not impair unborn babies’ general development.
