A new report estimates that 1 billion unborn babies have been killed in abortions in the past 100 years across the world.
The “Abortion Worldwide Report” from the Global Life Campaign provides details about the shocking prevalence of abortions throughout the world, especially in communist countries, The Epoch Times reports.
Thomas W. Jacobson, co-author of the report and director of the pro-life organization, said they spent 36 years researching abortion data across the globe and found more than 1 billion abortions recorded between 1921 and 2015. That amounts to an average of 34,400 babies killed by abortions every day, according to the report.
“This is really the counting of dead babies,” Jacobson said.
China ranked first for the number of abortions, with approximately 400 million. Russia came in second with about 219 million, and the United States was third with about 60 million, according to the report.
“Cumulative deaths by abortion exceed all deaths by wars and governments and genocides and every other form of death in the 1900s, the last century,” Jacobson said. “Far, far greater.”
The researchers found that 73 percent of the unborn babies were aborted in communist countries.
“The basis of communism is the rejection of God, so in other words a rejection of the creator of life,” Jacobson said. “And there’s a culture of death that takes over—they’re just death cultures who destroy life. There’s no basis for the valuing of an individual life within communism.”

According to the report, abortions are legal in 136 countries, though the extent of the laws vary. In contrast, 60 countries still protect unborn babies from abortion.
Jacobson said he hopes the report will motivate people to do more to end abortion. He also urged society to return to Judaeo-Christian values.
“We need to realize that this is something that must end. It must end,” he said. “We give the biblical and Judaeo-Christian foundations for restoring the sanctity of human life, human rights, civil government, and law, and getting the right perspective on those. If those are not restored, nothing’s going to change.”
The disturbing report comes at a time when leading abortion activists are openly attacking supporters for saying abortions should be “rare.”
The slaughter of unborn babies is massive, and the fight is far from over. But in the United States, abortion rates have been dropping steadily thanks to the tireless work of pro-life advocates. From passing laws to providing material support to struggling mothers, pro-life advocates are saving babies and mothers from the deadly destruction of abortion.
