“Best cities” lists typically are made for people looking for vacation spots, places to settle down with a family, or a career that they love.

But a disturbing new list from the National Institute for Reproductive Health highlights cities that make it easy to abort unborn babies. Fast Company reports the pro-abortion group ranked 50 U.S. cities based on 34 different indicators, including how much they promote abortion access.

The “top” city for killing unborn babies is San Francisco, with New York City and Chicago close behind, according to the list. Boston, Los Angeles, Portland, Oregon, Seattle and Washington, D.C. also ranked near the top. The city with the lowest score was Billings, Montana. Others near the end included El Paso, Texas, Las Vegas and Omaha, Nebraska, the report continues.

“We hope that people will use the Local Reproductive Freedom Index to take a close look at their own communities and use it as an inspiration and a set of guideposts for what could be possible,” said Andrea Miller, president of the National Institute for Reproductive Health.

She specifically highlighted Columbus, Ohio, for doing more to promote abortion by enacting a buffer zone around city abortion facilities. Buffer zones violate free speech rights and reduce access to pregnancy/parenting support information by blocking peaceful pro-life advocates from reaching out to women before they go inside.

Here’s more from the report:

[T]he NIRH sees lots of potential for change, particularly beginning at the city level. The organization just released its 2019 Local Reproductive Freedom Index, a study that looked at the policies of 50 U.S. cities as of December 31, 2018, and rated those cities based on a set of 34 “indicators.” Those indicators ranged from initiatives directly tied to abortion access, like local protections for abortion clinics, to more tangentially health-related areas, like paid sick leave and a $15 minimum wage.

“The reality is that these are all really interconnected,” says Miller. “We really do recognize, as I believe cities do, that how we treat families, how we address the needs of our communities, whether people are able to have a sustainable income and take care of themselves and their families when they are unwell . . . all of these are intimately linked to the fundamentals of reproductive healthcare.”

Miller’s list should be turned upside-down if she truly is interested in helping families. A baby in the womb also is a member of the family, and because of the radical pro-abortion agenda of groups like hers, millions of them have been mercilessly slaughtered in their mothers’ wombs. Some abortion activists even openly celebrate their deaths.

Abortions hurt the family because they destroy the most vulnerable of its members. They hurt mothers and fathers, siblings and grandparents, leaving them to mourn a child who they will never know or be able to show love toward.

Cities like the growing list of “sanctuaries for the unborn” in Texas really are the ones that deserve praise. These cities have declared that unborn babies are valuable members of the family, and their lives deserve equal protection under the law.
