All across the world, women are rejecting abortion for their unborn babies with disabilities because they know that their child’s life is valuable.

News outlets are reporting about a Russian baby who was born with three legs after his mother rejected abortion. National News reports the 14-month-old is recovering well after he underwent multiple surgeries at a hospital in Moscow, and doctors believe he will live a normal life.

Doctors discovered the rare abnormality while his mother was pregnant. They offered her an abortion, but she refused, The Sun reports.

In July 2018, the baby boy was born with three legs, two sets of genitals and no anus, according to the reports. Medical experts believe the boy had a conjoined twin who did not fully develop in the womb.

“Most likely, at the beginning these were twins. The middle leg had two heels. These had to be two boys, but (in the womb) it turned into just one baby,” according to the doctors who treated him.

The boy underwent multiple surgeries at Holy Vladimir Children’s Hospital in Moscow and now is doing well, according to the reports.

Discrimination against people with disabilities is widely condemned when the person is outside the womb. However, the situation often is reversed when an unborn baby is diagnosed with a disability. Abortions are typically offered – even encouraged – and parents sometimes are cruelly criticized for choosing life for a child with disabilities. This eugenic abortion trend has drawn the attention of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and caused discomfort even among people who identify as pro-choice on abortion.

Every baby, born and unborn, no matter what their special needs, is a valuable human being who deserves the chance at life.
