Nancy Pelosi: States Passing Laws to Protect Babies From Abortion is a “Dangerous Thing”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi slammed state lawmakers’ efforts to protect unborn babies as “dangerous” this week in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Pelosi, a pro-abortion Democrat from California, supports a “woman’s right to choose” abortion for basically any reason up to birth. She also has been using her political power to block a bill to protect newborn babies who survive abortions from infanticide.

Speaking with the newspaper after the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear an abortion challenge from Louisiana, Pelosi said she is “very, very” concerned about the future. The challenge has to do with abortion clinic regulations.

“I think that Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose is greatly at risk,” Pelosi said. “I don’t like to be a fear monger, but this is very personal for people, that their lives will be so affected by a court decision.”

More than 61 million unborn babies’ lives have been negatively affected by Roe v. Wade. That total does not include the mothers, fathers, siblings and grandparents who also have been hurt by legalized abortion on demand.

Pelosi did not acknowledge any of them. Instead, she criticized pro-life leaders’ efforts to protect unborn babies from abortion.

“I think there’s a lot to be concerned about, because even if the court decides a certain way, the states are doing their own dangerous things for a woman’s right to choose,” Pelosi said.

Pro-life state laws may endanger the abortion industry’s profits, but they are protecting lives by enacting pro-life laws and policies. Abortions kill unborn babies and often endanger women’s health. Limiting or prohibiting abortions saves lives.

Georgia and several other states passed laws this year to ban abortions once an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable, about six weeks of pregnancy. None of them are being enforced because of pro-abortion legal challenges; however, lawmakers hope at least one of the laws eventually will prompt the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse Roe v. Wade and restore legal protections for babies in the womb.

Pelosi has a strong pro-abortion voting record. In 2013, she put her foot in her mouth during a press conference, calling the battle to keep late-term abortions legal “sacred ground.” Then, earlier this year, she criticized pro-life pregnancy centers, calling them “anti-choice” efforts to “deceive and prey on vulnerable women.”

In January 2017, just before the annual March for Life, Pelosi blasted pro-life Republicans, saying, “They pray in church on Sunday, and prey on everyone the rest of the week.”

She claims to be a practicing Catholic, but her abortion stance contradicts the Catholic Church’s teachings on the sanctity of human life.
