The fall 40 Days for Life campaign begins Wednesday with pro-lifers dedicated to peaceful advocacy and prayer for unborn babies in more than 500 communities across the world.
The pro-life campaign, held every spring and fall, has made a huge impact for life since it began in 2004. Organizers said the fall campaign is their “largest ever.”
“We’re about to embark upon the largest 40 Days for Life campaign in history in 505 cities” in 30 countries, the organization wrote on Facebook this week.
The organization encourages pro-life advocates to dedicate 40 days to prayer, fasting and peaceful, compassionate outreach outside abortion facilities in their communities. Along with sidewalk counseling and prayer, many local vigils also organize diaper drives, baby showers and other fundraisers to help mothers and children in need.
This year, organizers said the need for prayer is more important than ever as politicians advocate openly for late-term abortions and infanticide.
“Recently, a politician provided a shocking reminder of just how critical your prayers and action are these next 40 days,” 40 Days for Life wrote online. “At a CNN town hall event, Sen. Bernie Sanders said that as president, he would use abortion to reduce the global population and fight climate change.”

Still, there is reason to hope. The pro-life film “Unplanned” highlighted the impact of 40 Days for Life on the big screen this year. The movie is based on the true story of Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson who became pro-life, in part, because of the 40 Days for Life volunteers in her community. Despite numerous hurdles, “Unplanned” became an unexpected success, ranking in the top 10 films at the box office for two weeks.
In the past 15 years, pro-lifers have helped to save more than 16,000 unborn babies from abortion through 40 Days for Life. They have helped 191 abortion workers quit their jobs and watched 104 abortion facilities close in their communities, according to the organization website.
Unfortunately, the organization also has become a target of abortion activists. Last week, police evacuated a 40 Days for Life event in Rochester, Minnesota because of a bomb threat. Later, they arrested a man on potential charges of felony terrorist threats, misdemeanor fifth-degree assault, disorderly conduct and public nuisance.
