Abortionist Who Kept 2,246 Aborted Babies as Trophies Killed Almost 50,000 Babies in Abortions

We are now ten days out from when the lawyer for the family of the late abortionist Ulrich Klopfer contacted Will County authorities to inform them that Klopfer’s widow and her sister had found “fetal remains” in the garage of their Crete, Illinois home.

2,246 “medically preserved fetal remains,” to be exact, which (according to the markings on the more than 70 boxes) were from Klopfer’s Indiana abortion clinics during the period 2000 to 2002.

Klopfer, 75, died September 3. His career as a prolific abortionist began in 1974 and he aborted, at a minimum, “Tens of thousands of abortions,” perhaps as many as 30,000 to 50,000. He operated three abortion clinics in Indiana—South Bend (whose pro-abortion Mayor Pete Buttigieg is running for President), Ft. Wayne, and Gary.

Last Friday, Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill told reporters at a press conference, “There are lots of unanswered questions concerning the why, the how, the what and we’re going to continue the investigatory process to determine, as best we can, why this occurred and what the purpose was.” In one of the great understatements, AG Hill added, “He certainly was problematic in life and as it turns out, continues to present problems in his death.”

Covering the press conference, Fox News’ Vandana Rambaran reported

Hill described Klopfer as “one of the most notorious abortionists in the history of Indiana’ who “had a record of deplorable conditions and violations of regulatory controls” at his clinics in Fort Wayne, South Bend and Gary.

Hill said that authorities are probing “the discarding or abandonment of confidential records and the appropriateness of that process.”

Indiana’s Medical Licensing Board suspended Klopfer’s medical license in 2016 after finding numerous violations, including a failure to ensure that qualified staff was present when patients received or recovered from medications given before and during abortions.

HIll said that that 10-year-old patient of Klopfer’s was raped by her uncle and the doctor failed to adequately document her abortion. Authorities are now investigating, among other issues, whether the fetal remains found at Klopfer’s home along with the recently uncovered medical records could help to nab the child’s rapist.

As word of the horrific findings spread, so, too, did horrified responses come from his former “patients.” Chicago’s local CBS affiliate carried a powerful account about “Assetou” under the headline, “Woman Says Abortion Doctor Who Stored Fetal Remains Left Her Scarred.” [Her last name was not used for obvious reasons.]

You can imagine what she felt, without even reading Dana Kozlov’s fine story. “I thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, I did this awful thing and my children are possibly held in a box somewhere in a house,’” Assetou told Kozlov. “I cried.”

Assetou had two abortions, the first, when she was 18, at Klopfer’s South Bend abortion clinic.

“She was carrying twins and still has the ultrasound pictures,” Kozlov. “Klopfer’s name is imprinted on them.”

Her story is filled with one ghastly detail after another. She told Kozlov of listening to Klopfer as he spoke to her and other women in the room.

“He said, ‘If you don’t do this, it will cost you … Yearly $240,000 to take care of a kid. So would you rather deal with that or would you rather go home and just go back to your regular life?’” Assetou said. “There was no emotion. There was no empathy.”

She said when she went back for her second abortion eight years later, not much had changed — except this procedure left her bleeding and scarred.

“The one thing I can remember was he was extremely rough,” Assetou said. “His tone of voice, how direct, callous it was. Even the procedure … It was rough.”

Her story is one example of what may lie ahead. AG Hill said on Friday “We are going to bring our babies home” and that there will be a thorough investigation about “the why, the how, [and] the what…”

Was Klopfer a demented Kermit Gosnell-like figure, a hoarder who collected the remains of 2,246 babies the way Gosnell did severed baby’s feet? When I read what the attorney for Klopfer’s widow said

The house was mostly “floor to ceiling junk,” according to Kevin Bolger, an attorney for the widow, and the doctor had also filled up the garage and several outbuildings.

“Imagine losing your husband, leaving you with this dump, and then finding out that he’s done this,” Bolger says. “I mean this is like something out of The Twilight Zone. And she’s totally freaked out about it.”

It is impossible not to think about what police found in Gosnell’s “Women’s Medical Society” (and later at his home). According to the Grand Jury that investigated,

The search team discovered fetal remains haphazardly stored throughout the clinic – in bags, milk jugs, orange juice cartons, and even in cat-food containers. Some fetal remains were in a refrigerator, others were frozen. Gosnell admitted to Detective Wood that at least 10 to 20 percent of the fetuses were probably older than 24 weeks in gestation – even though Pennsylvania law prohibits abortions after 24 weeks. In some instances, surgical incisions had been made at the base of the fetal skulls.

The investigators found a row of jars containing just the severed feet of fetuses. In the basement, they discovered medical waste piled high. The intact 19-week fetus delivered by Mrs. Mongar [who died from complications] three months earlier was in a freezer. In all, the remains of 45 fetuses were recovered at the clinic that evening and turned over to the Philadelphia medical examiner, who confirmed that at least two of them, and probably three, had been viable.

Am I suggesting Klopfer was as awful as Gosnell? Of course not. Two women died at Gosnell’s abortion clinic (he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the case of Mrs. Mongar), and Gosnell was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder for intentionally delivering these near-term babies alive and then “snipping” their spinal cords.

What I am saying is two-fold. First, that Klopfer had a long history of recklessness up to an including not properly documenting the abortion of a ten-year-old rape victim.

Second, that Klopfer and Gosnell are not “outliers” but emblematic of the kind of men who are attracted to a business where tens of thousands of unborn babies are slaughtered.
