Though about half of Americans identify as pro-life, discrimination against those who support the rights of unborn babies appears to be growing.

Nurses say they are being forced to help abort unborn babies or lose their jobs. Reports of bomb threats, vandalism and harassment targeting pro-lifers are growing.

In the latest case, an Oregon woman suspects that someone filed a false report against her with Child Protective Services because she is a pro-life advocate and supporter of President Donald Trump.

The Epoch Times reports Heather Hobbs believes the report may have come from a nurse who was taking care of her after a thyroid surgery Aug. 29 at OHSU Hospital in Portland.

While the nurse was in the room, “my oldest child came up to me to give me a hug in the bed. She said, ‘Mommy I love you! I want to be a pro-life speaker one day, too,’” Hobbs told the news outlet.

“I expressed that I loved her as well and said, ‘I thought you wanted to be an OBGYN?. She said, ‘” I want to be both!’” I replied, ‘We could always use more pro-life doctors.’”

She said her husband and other children also were in the room, and she was nursing her 18-month-old when the conversation occurred.

“Nurse C turned to me and said with an annoyed tone: ‘So you’re pro-life?’” Hobbs remembered. “I smiled and gently said ‘I am now but wasn’t always. I was raised in a more liberal atheist pro-choice home, but it wasn’t until my first child that I ever had to really contemplate my beliefs. She changed my heart, and every child after changed me a bit more. I believe abortion hurts women.”

She said Nurse C’s demeanor seemed to change, and she became more rough and rude than she had been before the conversation.

Hobbs believes that nurse may have filed a false, politically-motivated report against her with Child Protective Services.

Here’s more from the report:

But on Aug. 30, in a phone conversation with an employee at the hotel where her family was staying, Hobbs was confronted with alarming news, as she learned a complaint had been filed against her with CPS.

“She raised her voice to me asking why I lied to her. I was very confused and thought maybe she had the wrong person. I tried to understand, but she cut off my questions calling me a child abuser and said my family needed to leave immediately. I was trying to grasp what was happening and still really confused.

“I asked her who said this and she told me I had an open CPS case against me, which violated the contract we signed when we arrived. I started crying and asked for a manager or whoever gave her this information. She said she was going to call the social worker again in an aggressive tone and hung up on me,” Hobbs said.

Hobbs was told that the Rood Family Pavilion, a non-profit [hotel] that works with the hospital, has a system that allows its staff to read a patient’s medical records, which Hobbs regards as a violation of federal privacy laws. The hotel staff had thus learned the nurse had filed a complaint with CPS.

Later, Hobbs said another nurse told her that Nurse C filed the complaint with CPS against other medical workers’ advice. The complaint alleged that Hobbs could be endangering her 18-month-old child by breastfeeding on IV pain medicine, according to the report.

“She sat at the end of my bed and said, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t think it would go this far.’ I stopped crying, was confused yet again, and said, ‘What are you talking about?’ She said, ‘One of your nurses yesterday [the 29th] was at the nurses station trying to get everyone to call CPS on you for breastfeeding while on IV pain medicine,” she said.

“We all disagreed with her but she kept on going on about it so to put her at ease I called the lactation nurse and the doctors. They both said it is safe to nurse while that medicine is used for post-surgical pain. I assumed it had stopped there,’” Hobbs continued.

According to the report, a doctor later wrote to CPS to explain that Hobbs was not endangering her child. Hobbs said the hospital also apologized to her for the whole matter and paid for their hotel.

The Epoch Times spoke with several people who confirmed details of Hobbs’ story.

“Heather Hobbs is a pro-life speaker and acquaintance via @SaveThe1Child,” pro-life advocate and writer Sarah St. Onge wrote on Twitter. “CPS was called on her due to political bias. This is unacceptable. No one should fear their children being put in foster care because a medical professional doesn’t agree with their politics.”
