Four Texas cities declared themselves to be sanctuaries for unborn babies this summer in the wake of extreme pro-abortion laws being passed in New York, Illinois and other states.

On Tuesday, the Joaquin City Council voted unanimously to pass the pro-life resolution, according to Texas Right to Life.

KTBS News reports city council member Mike Cummings proposed the ordinance because he is concerned about an abortion facility opening in Joaquin in the future.

“We’re conservative Christian town. We hold on to our faith and pro-life values,” Cummings said.

The ordinance declares Joaquin to be a “sanctuary city for the unborn.” It describes abortion as the murder of a living, unique human being, and prohibits abortion facilities from opening in the town. It also bans abortions at all stages in the city.

Local resident Krystal Raybon attended the meeting to support the pro-life measure, according to Texas Right to Life.

“This is very close to my heart. I’m blessed by my son but I cannot have any more children. If any women just can’t take care of their child and needs a loving family, our home is open,” she said.

Earlier this month, two other Texas cities passed similar measures, and pro-life advocates expect even more will follow their lead this fall.

“Texas Right to Life applauds the members of Joaquin City Council for their bold action to protect preborn children,” the organization said on its blog. “In the months to come, we anticipate more and more cities will follow Joaquin’s example and act to prevent the violence of the abortion industry from spreading to their communities.”

A growing number of towns and cities have passed resolutions this year to protect the unborn. Many come in response to abortion activists’ increasingly radical pro-abortion agenda. All of the top Democratic presidential candidates support forcing taxpayers to fund abortions and oppose minor, common sense restrictions on abortions after viability. Many of them also voted against a bill to protect newborns from infanticide.

Several states, including New York, Illinois, Vermont and Rhode Island, passed pro-abortion laws this year to allow viable, late-term unborn babies to be aborted for basically any reason up to birth.

In March, Roswell, New Mexico city leaders passed a pro-life resolution after state lawmakers considered a radical pro-abortion bill to expand late-term abortions. The bill narrowly failed to pass.

In New York state, Batavia city leaders and Putnam County legislators also passed measures condemning a radical new pro-abortion law in their state and supporting protections for the unborn.

Then, in June, the eastern Texas city of Waskom adopted a pro-life ordinance declaring their home a “sanctuary city for the unborn.” In July, another Texas city considered a similar pro-life measure, but the council voted against it after the ACLU threatened a costly lawsuit.

In May, the Riverton City Council in Utah passed a similar resolution, declaring the city a “sanctuary for the unborn.” In June, the Utah County Commission unanimously passed a resolution supporting protections for unborn babies. Then in July, the council in Highland, Utah passed a similar pro-life resolution.

The city of Springdale, Arkansas passed a similar pro-life resolution in August.
