President Trump has stood up for pro-life values throughout his presidency. Most of the ways in which he has governed as a pro life president have to do with domestic policy. However, President Trump has promoted the pro life perspective abroad — especially at the United Nations.

Now, according to a new report from a pro-life organization that lobbies at the UN, the Trump administration is rallying pro life nations to stand up to the UN’s pro-abortion agenda. Here’s more:

A joint letter signed by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary Alex Azar of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was sent last month to ask governments to support U.S. pro-life efforts at the United Nations in the lead up to a global health summit this September.

UN delegates have been looking for such a letter for more than a year because it makes official the U.S. pro-life stance and will help them in standing up to abortion forces in the UN bureaucracy and the European governments.

The letter warns against “aggressive efforts to reinterpret international instruments to create a new international right to abortion and to promote international policies that weaken the family.”

Pompeo and Azar said these efforts were “disturbing” and that they “take the focus off real health issues and import policy debates that should be handled at the national, sub-national, or community level.”

Their letter also referred to the terms “sexual and reproductive health” and “comprehensive sexuality education” as “ambiguous terms and expressions that cause confusion and have become associated with anti-family and pro-abortion policies.”

The letters follows on the heels of Trump naming a pro-life advocate as ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva. He’s nominated Andrew Bremberg, who currently serves as the chief of the White House Domestic Policy Council. In the past several years, he has been a key advocate for pro-life policies in the Trump administration.

Bremberg has a strong pro-life record.

The Guardian reports he encouraged Trump to expand the Mexico City policy, which prohibits foreign aid from funding groups that provide and promote abortions overseas. The policy defunded Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes, two major abortion chains, of hundreds of millions of American tax dollars. The International Planned Parenthood Federation alone estimated a $100 million loss from its budget.

Bremberg also helped bring other pro-life leaders into the Trump administration as co-chair of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services transition team, according to the report.

And in June, he refused to back down on his defense of the unborn when a top Senate Democrat grilled him during a Foreign Relations Committee meeting.

In 2017, the Trump administration stopped funding a United Nations agency linked to forced and coerced abortions. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) “partners on family planning activities with the Chinese government agency responsible for these coercive policies,” the administration said in defense of its decision. China’s oppressive one child policy, recently changed to a two-child limit, has led to forced and coerced abortions up through nine months of pregnancy, as well as forced and coerced sterilizations.

During his first week in office, President Donald Trump issued an executive order known as the Mexico City Policy or the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance Act that revoked taxpayer funding to the International Planned Parenthood abortion business.

The policy prohibits taxpayer funding to international groups that promote and/or provide abortions overseas, the biggest of which is IPPF. Trump’s decision applied to nearly nine billion dollars in U.S. taxpayer funds to foreign non-governmental organizations. The policy ensures U.S. funds continue to go to health care, humanitarian relief, and even family planning; it only blocks funding to those groups like IPPF that perform or promote abortion in oher nations. Ultimately, that cost Planned Parenthood’s international abortion company $100 million.

Earlier this year, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Trump Administration announced a new enforcement mechanism designed to expand this executive order to the broadest extent possible. Pompeo announced that the U.S. State Department will refuse to work with any foreign non-governmental organization (NGO) engaged in the abortion business. The State Department will also refuse to fund foreign NGOs that give money to other foreign NGOs engaged in the international abortion industry.
