Abortion Clinic Requests No Lights and Sirens for Ambulance to Hide Botched Abortions

Family Planning Associates, an abortion facility located on West Washington Boulevard in Chicago, Illinois, called 911 for the ambulance transport of two women last month who were suffering medical emergencies.

Family Planning Associates conducts abortions up to 24 weeks.  Abortions are the only procedure done at this facility.  All other services involve testing of various types and birth control.

This means the two incidents were almost certainly abortion-related.

The 911 recordings were provided to Operation Rescue by the Pro-Life Action League.

June 14, 2019

On June 14, 2019, an overly cheery FPA employee called 911 to request an ambulance for a woman who had aspirated while under sedation.  In this context, this means that she had breathed in her own vomit.

The caller informed the 911 dispatcher that the patient was coming out of sedation at the time of the call and that she was breathing at that time.

Aspiration of vomit can be a very serious situation, and could lead to complications such as pulmonary abscesses, pneumonia, sepsis, and even respiratory failure.

This is the second time this year an ambulance has been called for an abortion patient who aspirated her own vomit.  The previous incident took place on January 29, 2019.

June 25, 2019

A second 911 call was placed from that same abortion facility just eleven days later on June 25, 2019.  A physician’s assistant ordered an ambulance for a 32-year old woman who was suffering from a high 106-degree fever.

The “doctor” on duty at the abortion facility planned to ride along with the woman to the hospital in the ambulance, indicating the woman’s condition was serious.

And indeed, it was.

While adults with a fever of 103-degrees are urged to see a doctor, an adult’s 106-degree fever constitutes a medical emergency.  A fever that high “can cause a coma or brain damage, according to the website HealthDay.com.  It is recommended that those with fevers that high call 911 or seek immediate attention at a hospital emergency room.

Why might a woman who was a patient at an abortion facility have such a dangerously high fever?

Some causes could include a serious infection after an incomplete abortion.  Another possibility might be an infection or reaction caused by laminaria dilators, which are inserted into the woman’s cervix a day or two prior to a late-term abortion so that instruments used to dismember the baby can be introduced into the uterus.

“No lights and sirens”

Given the seriousness and potential damage that can be caused by a 106-degree fever, what happened next is troubling.

The physician’s assistant asked the 911 dispatcher, “Can I request no lights and sirens?”

The 911 dispatcher responded by telling her, “I can’t help you there.”

“The best you can do,” she responded.

Running an ambulance without the use of lights and sirens in a medical emergency can delay necessary emergency care when minutes can make a difference between full recovery and further serious injury.  In the case of the woman suffering a fever of 106-degrees, getting emergency help as soon as possible was critical to preventing tragic complications.

“It is obvious that the FPA abortion business was trying to keep news of this woman’s condition from reaching the public,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.  “They placed their public image above this woman’s life.”

Abortion malpractice at FPA

One abortionist recently confirmed by Operation Rescue as working for the FPA abortion facility is Darwin Jackson.  Records available at AbortionDocs.org show Jackson was sued in Cook County, Illinois, for medical malpractice in 2005, 2006, and 2010.

Jackson settled the 2010 case out of court in 2013 for $950,000.  The case involved an attempted suction abortion on a 14-year old girl who actually suffered from a rare form of ectopic pregnancy known as a cornual or interstitial ectopic pregnancy — one that is stuck in the muscle lining of the uterus.

Because of his misdiagnosis, Jackson continued to suction until he had torn her uterus several times and cased massive bleeding he could not control.  The teen received a hysterectomy to save her life and will never be able to bear children.

History of botched abortions

The FPA abortion business has had seven known medical emergencies over the past 16 months.  Those emergencies include:

  • May 31, 2019: Internal hemorrhaging due to botched abortion on 24-year old woman.
  • January 29, 2019: Woman, 29, choked on her own vomit during an abortion.
  • August 11, 2018: Woman with serious post-operative bleeding.  FPA caller begged, “Please come quickly!”
  • March 21, 2018: Hemorrhaging 18-year old woman.
  • March 24, 2018: A 23-year old patient was bleeding heavily.  Abortionist accompanied her in the ambulance to Northwestern Hospital.

“This abortion facility poses an obvious danger to women. Seven ambulances transporting seven seriously injured women in just 16 months is a warning sign that there is something very wrong at that abortion clinic,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “This clinic is not fit to operate and should be closed down immediately.”
