At 2:49 this afternoon, NBC News posted a story, “NBC News poll: Biden, Sanders and Warren lead 2020 field.” But if you reached that story via clicking on AOL, you see the headline was different: “Trump’s approval ticks upwards as next debate looms.”
The two are not unrelated.
First, the numbers. After reporting that Joe Biden is “leading the pack” among Democrats, Dareth Gregorian writes, “The survey also found that President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating ticked upward to 48 percent in July, compared to 45 percent in a NBC News|SurveyMonkey online poll in September. The president’s disapproval rating decreased to 51 percent, compared to 54 percent in the September poll.”
All week I have read stories, often from the same sources, that, on the one hand, were saturated with hate for President Trump, and stories, on the other hand, that lamented the prospect that Trump’s re-election chances are getting better and better.
An objective observer might comment, “You know, guys and gals, people are not stupid, and they are growing fed up with your viciously anti-Trump agenda dressed up as news stories.” That accounts for part of the upward tick.
The other component, not to put too fine a point on it, is that the 20 Democrats running for President are a motley lot and everybody knows it. They are absurdly pro-abortion to the point of caricature, and their policy preferences are so out of the mainstream even many New York Times columnists, such as Tom Friedman, are worried that as a result, Trump is the odds–on favorite to win a second term.

We know, of course, that we are more than 15 months out from the 2020 presidential election and much will change.
What won’t change is the media’s hatred for Trump which is so over the top it is cutting against their agenda: defeating Donald Trump in 2020.
