Planned Parenthood is First and Foremost About Killing Unborn Babies in Abortion

Yesterday, the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), announced the ouster of its president and CEO, Leana Wen, M.D., after only eight months. While rumors abound, it is clear that Dr. Wen’s departure signals that the goals of Planned Parenthood remain the same: abortion anytime, anywhere, and at taxpayer expense.

“Planned Parenthood is a political machine intent on making abortion the ‘solution’ for every pregnant woman seeking help,” stated Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee. “As other services they offer have declined, Planned Parenthood has increased the number of abortions it has provided.”

PPFA is the nation’s largest single abortion provider performing over 330,000 abortions in 2017, an increase of 3.5% from 2016.

In 2005, Planned Parenthood reported 2,011,637 “cancer screens and prevention.” The figure for 2017 was just 614,361, a drop of nearly 70% in just a dozen years. This meant 842,536 fewer women received Pap tests in 2017 than in 2005.

During that same time frame, there were 547,891 fewer “breast exams” (manual breast exams). Even contraception, Planned Parenthood’s signature product, showed great losses. In 2006, at what looked to be the peak for the last dozen years, 3,989,474 women received birth control at Planned Parenthood. In 2017, there were just 2,620,867 contraceptive customers, a fall off of 34.3%.

“Abortion kills an unborn child and nearly always leaves a woman in the same circumstances that caused her to seek an abortion,” stated Tobias. “Planned Parenthood is engaged in expanding abortion access to increase its bottom line, not help women who are in need of real solutions to real problems.”

Planned Parenthood generated over $1.6 billion in revenue in their fiscal year ending in June 2018.

Dr. Wen’s firing shows that Planned Parenthood’s emphasis is on abortion and politics, not healthcare. Dr. Wen stated she was being let go, “because the new Board Chairs and I have philosophical differences over the direction and future of Planned Parenthood.”
