Shawn Carney’s leadership at 40 Days for Life has impacted lives across the globe.

Since it began in 2004, the pro-life organization has helped to save 16,000 babies from abortion, The Blaze reports.

Shawn Carney, speaking on The Pure Flix Podcast recently, talked about his organization’s outreach and the recent publicity with the film “Unplanned,” in which Carney is a character.

Now an international outreach, 40 Days for Life began 15 years ago in a small Texas town. Carney and other pro-lifers began praying for an end to abortion in their community and for the Planned Parenthood workers to have a change of heart.

One of the first workers impacted by their prayers was Abby Johnson, whose conversion story is told in “Unplanned.” But since then, dozens of other workers also have left their jobs thanks to the dedicated 40 Days for Life volunteers who gather outside abortion facilities across the globe.

“We’ve helped 190 abortion facility workers have a change of heart [and] leave their jobs,” Carney told the podcast. “We know of 16,000 babies that are alive today that we can affirm.”

He said they also have seen 100 abortion facilities close after 40 Days for Life campaigns.

“We show up at these abortion facilities and peacefully pray,” Carney said. “We are there before, during, and after the abortion. We’re always there for the women.”

These are the known results of campaigns in 816 cities in 56 countries across the world, he said.

But the full impact of pro-lifers’ efforts can never fully be measured. When an unborn baby’s life is saved or an abortion facility closes, these actions have ripple effects that impact fathers and mothers, grandparents and siblings and whole communities.

The next 40 Days for Life campaign will run Sept. 25 to Nov. 3.
