Liberal Washington Post and ABC News Falsely Claim Americans Support Abortion. Here’s the Truth

Leave it to the Washington Post/ABC News. While recent Gallup and Morning Consult polls find strong majorities that oppose abortion in all or only a few cases, the new joint poll supposedly shows “Support for legal abortion stands at its highest level in more than two decades according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, even as numerous states adopt restrictions that challenge the breadth of rights established by the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.”

By this they mean, “The Post-ABC poll finds a 60 percent majority who say abortion should be legal in most or all cases.” Of course, as always, the Washington Post/ABC News frames the question this way: “Do you think abortion should be legal in all cases, legal in most cases, illegal in most cases or illegal in all cases.” The 60% refers to responses to the first two options.

However, as NRL News Today reported last month, Gallup, which asks more thoughtful and discerning questions, concluded that a total of 60% want abortion legal “only in a few circumstances” (39%) or “illegal in all circumstances” (21%)—a big, big jump of 7 points from 2018!

While the Washington Post/ABC News poll says “Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say that abortion is an important issue in their vote for president,” Gallup’s Lydia Saad concluded

Currently, 26% of pro-choice adults say they will only vote for a candidate who shares their views on abortion, up from 17% in 2016.

However, the matter continues to be more important as a voting issue to pro-life than pro-choice adults, as it has in every Gallup measure since 2004. Thirty-five percent of pro-life adults now say they will only vote for like-minded candidates on the issue, an increase from 23% in 2016.

Then there was the Morning Consult poll also from June.

Granted, you have to be a discerning (and patient) reader but the conclusion is dynamic. As we wrote

In other words, a total of 61% said abortion should be illegal in all cases (3%); illegal except for rape, incest, risk to mother’s life (45%); illegal except for rape and incest (5%); or illegal unless there is a risk to the mother’s life (8%)

It’s as if WaPo and ABC News saw the results, panicked, and decided to find the “right” results.

Come here early and often and we will provide you with the facts.
