An executive with a pro-choice group criticized former Vice President Joe Biden Friday for suggesting he’d slap President Donald Trump in the mouth during a presidential debate.
“Count me as a voter who would prefer someone who handles a menacing bully calmly while continuing to make her point over someone who announces he will pop him in the mouth,” Christina Reynolds, a vice president of communications with EMILY’s List, told her Twitter followers Friday morning.
EMILY’s List is a political action group committed to electing pro-choice Democratic women.

She was responding to a CNN interview Biden gave in which he said: “The idea that I’d be intimidated by Donald Trump. He’s the bully that I knew my whole life. He’s the bully that I’ve always stood up to. He’s the bully that used to make fun when I was a kid that I stutter, and I’d smack him in the mouth.”

Biden, who is among several Democrats running for president in 2020, saw his poll numbers fall after his participation in the June 27 Democratic debate in Miami, Florida. He received significant criticism during the debate for his approach to school busing.
Biden was polling at 27 percent as of Tuesday according to the RealClear Politics average. The former vice president’s support dropped from 48.5 percent to 31 percent shortly after the debate, compared to Harris’s surge from 7.9 percent to 16.8 percent, according to a Morning Consult/FiveThirtyEight poll.
This is not the first time Biden has suggested he could pummel Trump. He told reporters in March 2018 that he would have “beat the hell out of” the president if the two of them were still in high school. The former Delaware senator later apologized.
