Pro-lifers in Nebraska are one step away from sending LB209, Abortion Pill Reversal Information, to Gov. Pete Ricketts. The measure had been stymied by a pro-abortion filibuster until Thursday.
“We thank the 35 Senators who voted to invoke cloture today and overcome a filibuster of LB 209” said Julie Schmit-Albin, Executive Director of Nebraska Right to Life. “This commonsense bill now has one more hurdle to final passage in the Nebraska Legislature.” Once LB 209 is law, “Women who regret starting the chemical abortion regimen will receive information on how to reverse that process and save their unborn child,” Schmit-Albin said.
Once the filibuster was overcome, the final vote was 36-9.
Eight states— Arizona, Arkansas, South Dakota, Utah, Idaho, North Dakota,. Kentucky , and Oklahoma–have laws on the book that require that women contemplating a chemical abortion be informed that if they do not take the second of two drugs, they may save their unborn child. LB 209 would strengthen Nebraska’s present Informed Consent on Abortion statute. Abortion facilities would have to direct the women to the Nebraska Dept. of Health & Human Services which would provide further information as well as help the woman to find a medical professional skilled in the protocol of providing progesterone to reverse the process.
Katie Franklin of Pregnancy Help News explained the Abortion Pill Reversal treatment was
Developed by physicians George Delgado and Matthew Harrison in 2007and works by giving women extra progesterone up to 72 hours after a woman takes the first chemical abortion pill.

Last year, Delgado released a study showing that 64-68 percent of women who used the protocol were able to give birth to a baby with no greater risk of birth defects than the general population.
“Don’t we owe it to these mothers to tell them of the possibility their baby’s life may be saved” said Ingrid Duran, NRLC’s director of State Legislation? Isn’t that what “choice” is all about? Or is choice only validated when mothers get biased information that offers no hope at all?”
