Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro promoted himself through a Planned Parenthood fundraising event Wednesday in Texas.
Castro, like all the other Democratic presidential candidates hoping to run against President Donald Trump in 2020, supports abortion on demand.
On Wednesday, he served as the honorary chair of a Planned Parenthood South Texas fundraiser, which was expected to raise more than half a million dollars, Spectrum News reports.
Castro, the former mayor of San Antonio, praised the abortion chain as a “fundamental” health care provider during the event.
“For generations Planned Parenthood has been fundamental to ensuring that people can get good reproductive health care in our country,” he said. “So I’m glad to see 1,200 people here today that are part of an effort in South Texas to support Planned Parenthood to ensure that everybody has good access to reproductive health care no matter what their means are.”
He also claimed Planned Parenthood does “such important work.”
Actually, Planned Parenthood primarily does abortions. Leana Wen, the president of Planned Parenthood, recently admitted that abortions are their “core mission.”
It is the largest abortion provider in America. Last year, it reported 332,757 abortions – more than one third of all abortions in the U.S. And though it claims to be a non-profit, it reaped in a record $1.66 billion in revenue last year, including nearly half a billion taxpayer dollars.
Planned Parenthood supports Democrats like Castro to ensure that its taxpayer funding keeps flowing and aborting unborn babies remains legal and unrestricted.
Castro has been cozy with the abortion chain for years. In 2014, former Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards posted a picture of herself with Castro to congratulate him when he was confirmed as the secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Obama administration.
He also supported Planned Parenthood’s effort to derail a late-term abortion ban in Texas. According to the abortion giant, Castro joined the pro-abortion Stand With Texas Women bus tour rally in San Antonio. Castro is also a long time supporter of Texas abortion activist Wendy Davis.
Hillary Clinton considered him as a vice presidential running mate in 2016.
