President Donald Trump slammed Democrats as “the party of abortion right up until birth” on Thursday in Michigan

Trump addressed a number of issues during the campaign rally, but he criticized Democrats several times for their radical, out of touch position on abortion, MedPage Today reports.

“In recent months, the Democrat Party has also been aggressively pushing extreme late-term abortion, allowing children to be ripped from their mother’s womb up until the moment of birth,” Trump said. “In Virginia, the governor stated he would even allow a newborn baby, wrap the baby up, make the baby comfortable, to be executed after birth.”

The Daily Wire reports Trump also touted Republicans’ family values in contrast to Democrats’ support for destroying its most vulnerable member.

“Radical democrats are the party of high taxes, open borders, late-term abortion, crime, hoaxes, and delusions,” Trump said. “The Republican Party is the party for all Americans. It’s what we want to be. It’s the way we want to live. We are the party of the American worker, the American family, and we are the party of the American dream.”

Some Democrats are leaving the party because it has become so extreme on abortion. Earlier this year, top Democrats even blocked a bill to require basic medical care for infants who are born alive after botched abortions.

The Democratic Party has embraced an increasingly radical stance on abortion. In 2016, it adopted a platform calling for full support of abortion for any reason up to birth as well as taxpayer funding of abortions. Both are widely unpopular positions among the general public.

Democrats for Life estimates more than 23 million Democrats in the U.S. are pro-life. In 2017, Pew Research found that 28 percent of Democrats say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Marist/KofC polling also found that 23 percent of Democrats consider themselves pro-life and 40 percent say abortion is morally wrong.

Polls consistently show that most Americans do not want their tax dollars paying for abortions either. A Politico/Harvard University poll in October 2016 found that a majority of voters oppose taxpayer funding for abortions. Just 36 percent of likely voters supported the issue, while 58 percent opposed it. These findings are consistent with previous polls from various groups.

Most Americans also oppose most abortions and want laws to limit abortions or make them illegal. According to a recent Gallup poll, just 29 percent of Americans want unlimited abortion up to birth.
