Never Forget: Democrats Defended Killing Babies in Abortions Right Up to the Day of Birth

The first time you watch pro-abortion Va. State Del. Kathy Tran matter of factly acknowledge that her (now defeated) “Repeal Act” would allow abortion “through the third trimester, the third trimester goes all the way up to 40 weeks,” you’re left dumbfounded.

You say to yourself, “I couldn’t really have heard this. I must have misunderstand Tran.”

But the answer is yes, you heard it, and no, you didn’t misunderstand. In fact, it gets worse.

Del. Todd Gilbert then asks, “Okay, but to the end of the third trimester?” To which Tran casually responds, “Yep, I don’t think we have limits in the bill.”

“Yep”?

To his great credit, Gilbert gives Tran a chance to walk back her outlandish remarks. He pauses before he asks the next questions while Tran impatiently drums her fingers on the rostrum.

Gilbert inquires what if the woman has reached the point where “she’s dilating”? Tran tries an evasion but Gilbert politely insists on an answer.

“My bill would allow that, yes.”

Why do I bring this up again today? For several reasons.

*A family member gave birth yesterday. In Del. Tran’s mind, another pregnant woman in exactly the same situation could abort her child. Tran’s remarks are real to me in a sense they never were previously.

*This morning, when I looked at Tran testifying, probably for the 20th time, I was struck not by just how cavalier she was—“Yep”—but also by the sense that Tran felt she really didn’t need to explain herself or what she proposed. She believes in a woman’s choice. A choice is a choice, whether the choice to abort comes immediately after discovering she is pregnant or immediately before she gives birth.

*A friend passed a long a story today that I had heard referenced but had never moved to the front of my brain. Writing at the Daily Caller, William Davis tells us

The Democratic Virginia delegate who has recently come under fire for sponsoring a bill in the Virginia House of Delegates that would allow the termination of a pregnancy up to 40 weeks old, is also the chief patron of a bill that would protect the lives of “fall cankerworms” during certain months.

Democratic Virginia Del. Kathy Tran introduced “House Bill No. 2495 – Fall cankerworm; spraying prohibited during certain months” on Jan. 9, the same day as “House Bill No. 2491 — Abortion; eliminate certain requirements.”

So, to be clear, Tran’s circle of compassion includes saving butterflies by “protecting the fall cankerworm (caterpillar)” from insecticides but excludes saving unborn babies minutes from birth from the abortionist.

Never, ever could you get a better illustration of the mind of the abortion absolutist.
