California Stops Executing Murderers But Allows Executing Unborn Babies in Abortions

California’s pro-abortion Gov. Gavin Newsom almost sounded pro-life when he explained this week why he signed an executive order to stop executing criminals in the state.

But Newsom has no similar sympathies for babies in the womb. On the contrary, he promised to support legislation to expand abortions in the already pro-abortion state.

KPBS reports the Democratic governor signed his controversial order Wednesday, granting reprieve to 737 inmates currently on death row in California.

“We are considering executing more people than any other state in modern history — to line up human beings, every day, for executions for two-plus years,” Newsom explained. “Premeditated, state-sponsored executions. … I cannot sign off on executing hundreds and hundreds of human beings, knowing among them are people who are innocent.”

Meanwhile, more than 100,000 unborn babies are aborted every year in California — many of them at taxpayers’ expense and all of them innocent. Yet, Newsom, a pro-abortion politician, supports it.

On Wednesday, Newsom said ending executions was the “right thing to do” in California, according to The Indiana Lawyer. He said the death penalty discriminates “against defendants who are mentally ill, black and brown, or can’t afford expensive legal representation,” and sometimes innocent human lives are put to death.

He also noted that killing a human being is “irreversible and irreparable in the event of human error.”

Pro-lifers say the same thing about abortion when they urge states to enact informed consent requirements that ensure women know all the facts about abortion before going through with it. Among other things, these laws require that abortion facilities provide information about an unborn baby’s development, risks of abortion and resources available to help moms parent their babies. But California does not have any informed consent law or really any other abortion restrictions.

Newsom and his fellow pro-abortion lawmakers are discriminating in their politics. They support rights and protections for some human beings, while ignoring or even intentionally denying those same rights to others. During his campaign in 2018, Newsom promised to support abortion. He even vowed to support a bill to expand the killing of unborn babies by forcing every public college campus to provide abortions to students for free.

His hypocritical politics send the message that some lives are valuable, some individuals worth saving, but others are not. And those others, in Newsom’s politics, are the most vulnerable, defenseless human beings of all – babies in the womb.
