There’s nothing quite like day 1 of a 40 Days for Life campaign.

Today we received the first report of a baby saved from abortion–during the vigil’s first hour!

While much of the 40 Days for Life world was still sleeping, volunteers in Birmingham, England helped an abortion-bound mother choose life.

“We had save number one during our first shift,” said Isabel, the local leader. “A lady was given a leaflet on her way in–she carried on inside but came out 15 minutes later and said she’d changed her mind and was keeping her baby. Praise God!”

Praise God, indeed!

Later that day, the faithful prayer warriors were joined by Bishop Bernard Longley.

On Sunday, Bishop John Keenan and Pastor Darnell Starks spoke at Birmingham’s kickoff rally. The highlight of the day was an appearance from a couple who chose life with help from the 40 Days for Life team during a previous vigil.

“They came back to say ‘thank you’ to everyone,” Isabel said. “And received a standing ovation from the packed hall.”

Lincoln, Nebraska

40 Days for Life Outreach Director Sue Thayer spoke to a full house at the campaign kickoff event in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The leadership team in Lincoln rents an office across the street from the abortion facility and has “a perfect view of all that goes on.”

Most of the time, that is. “The snow is so deep that the windows are partially blocked,” Sue reported.

Of course, that’s no problem. For 40 days, the faithful prayer warriors in Lincoln won’t need the window. Undeterred by the snow, they’ll be keeping an eye on Planned Parenthood from the sidewalk.

Chester County, Pennsylvania

Lincoln wasn’t the only part of the country covered in snow for the start of the campaign. The Chester County campaign launch coincided with the beginning of a snowstorm!

“It did not dampen the prayers being offered for successful campaigns throughout the world,” Paulette in West Chester said.

With the community hosting its 23rd 40 Days for Life campaign, it will take a lot more than snow to keep the pro-life faithful away from the vigil!

Scripture and Prayer

In those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. — Acts 6:1

Father, in the Church’s desire to engage our communities with the Gospel, let us gain wisdom from those who have gone before us and cherish their experiences and perspectives. Help us to appreciate every soul in the body of Christ and minister properly to everybody.
