Democratic presidential candidates will have to answer to voters why they support abortion up to birth and infanticide ahead of the 2020 election.
Pro-life leaders say they will make sure of it, and President Donald Trump will, too.
Last week, every Democrat in the U.S. Senate who is running for president voted against a bill to stop infanticide by requiring basic medical care for babies who are born alive after botched abortions. They include Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand and Amy Klobuchar.
This radical pro-abortion agenda, extending even beyond birth, very well could be Democrats’ “doom” in 2020, Matthew Walther wrote at The Week.
“The same Americans who are lukewarm about abortion because it does not seem to affect their own lives, who would rather not discuss the issue, who care more about their tax bill or their dogs, or what Colin Kaepernick is doing before football games, will not countenance undisguised infanticide,” Walther commented.
The Susan B. Anthony List plans to hold the candidates accountable, too.
“There need to be political consequences for the extremism of the other side,” Mallory Quigley, a spokeswoman for the pro-life group told the Washington Examiner. “Now we have people on record, including a handful of people who are running for our nation’s highest office.”
Quigley said she believes the Democrats’ defeat of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act will be a key issue in the presidential election.
Trump already has slammed Democrats for their extremism in various speeches, including his State of the Union Address, and on Twitter.
“Senate Democrats just voted against legislation to prevent the killing of newborn infant children. The Democrat position on abortion is now so extreme that they don’t mind executing babies AFTER birth,” Trump tweeted earlier this week. “This will be remembered as one of the most shocking votes in the history of Congress.”
Every Democrat running against Trump right now has an extreme position on abortion. While polls consistently show that a majority of Americans, including Democrats, support abortion restrictions, these Democrat politicians do not. In the past few years, they have voted against bills to protect infants born alive after botched abortions, to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood and to prohibit late-term abortions on pain-capable unborn babies.
Townhall predicts that the candidates’ support of new “Medicaid for All” legislation also could be disastrous for Democrats in 2020. The current House bill not only would ban private health insurance, it also would force taxpayers to pay for abortions and prohibit states from defunding Planned Parenthood.
Many of the current presidential candidates support such legislation. Sanders called for a similar bill during his 2016 campaign, and Harris publicly supported it, according to the report.
But polls are not in Democrats’ favor. A 2019 national poll by Marist University found that a majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortions, while 39 percent support them. Similarly, a 2016 Politico/Harvard University poll found that just 36 percent of likely voters supported taxpayer funding for abortions, while 58 percent opposed it.
Similarly, a poll earlier this week found a sharp, double-digit uptick in the number of Americans who identify as pro-life after pro-abortion Democrats began pushing abortions up to birth and infanticide this year. Among Democrats, the gap between pro-life and pro-choice identifiers was cut in half from 55 percent to 27 percent.
Hopefully, Americans will remember just how radically pro-abortion many Democrat leaders are when they head to the polls next November.
