Abortion survivor Melissa Ohden criticized Virginia lawmakers for supporting late-term abortions and even infanticide Thursday, pointing to her life as an example of why their legislation is so horrific.
Speaking with The Daily Caller, Ohden explained how she survived a late-term abortion when her mother was seven months pregnant with her. Later, she learned that her young mother had been forced into the abortion, and still deeply regrets not doing more to try to save her life.
She criticized Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam for supporting infanticide after he said earlier this week that doctors and women could have a discussion about whether to leave a disabled newborn baby to die.
“I wake up every single day living with the fact that people somehow want to pass this kind of legislation that would have ended my life,” she said. “People can very nonchalantly talk about this or try to be ambiguous, but there is no ambiguity that exists. My life should have been ended by an abortion, and every day children are losing their lives.”
She said abortions destroy the lives of real human beings every day, and people must not stop questioning those who support abortion.
Babies with disabilities especially are being discriminated against in the latest abortion discussions, she said.

“What a subjective stance people are taking on these kind of bills, to somehow say this is a life worth saving” while others are not because they have a disability, Ohden said. “And it’s easy to say that until you are that choice.”
She also noted that late-term abortions on healthy mothers and healthy babies do happen. She knows because it happened to her and her mother.
“People want to believe this isn’t a problem,” she said.
“Let’s just use the word infanticide, because that’s what it is,” Ohden continued, referring to Northam’s comments. “In my case, I know there were nurses on the staff of that hospital who fought for me. I could have been left to die … I know that children like me were actually placed in a utility closet in buckets of formaldehyde and left to die, and I know that because I’ve talked to the nurses who were responsible for it.”
The Virginia bill to legalize abortions up to birth did fail. However, other states like New Mexico, Vermont and Rhode Island are pushing similar measures. Last week, New York also passed a law to legalize abortions for basically any reason up to birth.
The U.S. is one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
