The Democratic Party has fallen far, supporting infanticide and the killing of unborn babies even as their mothers are giving birth to them, Vice President Mike Pence said this week.
In an op-ed for National Review on Thursday, Pence pointed to pro-abortion legislation in Virginia, New York and other states that would allow unborn babies to be legally killed for basically any reason up to birth.
Some bills have passed, others have failed and still more are being debated right now, but they all are backed primarily by pro-abortion Democrats.
The Democratic Party no longer says abortions should be “safe, legal and rare.” Instead, its leaders celebrate the killing of innocent, living, unique babies in the womb for any reason up to birth. The Democratic Party platform supports forcing taxpayers to fund elective abortions and legalizing abortions for basically any reason through all nine months of pregnancy.
It is nothing less than “morally reprehensible and evil,” Pence said.
This week, a delegate to the Virginia state legislature introduced a bill affirming abortion up to the moment of birth. In shocking testimony, the delegate admitted that even when it was obvious that a child was about to be born — in the 40th week of a pregnancy, even in the midst of active labor — this proposed law would allow for the child to be aborted, so long as a single doctor approves.
Governor Ralph Northam, a supporter of the bill, went even further in a radio interview the next day. He tried to reassure its opponents that if a child survived an abortion, “the infant would be kept comfortable. [And] the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue.”
There’s another word for this: infanticide. And it is morally reprehensible and evil.
Pence slammed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for celebrating his state’s new pro-abortion law by lighting up the One World Trade Center in pink.
“This shameless embrace of a culture of death is startling to every American who cherishes life,” he said.
Pence described it as a dark time in history, but hope remains. Abortion numbers are dropping, and the Trump administration has been working to cut off taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups.
Even Cuomo’s celebration of death could not hide the truth.
“… at the base of the same One World Trade Center that was bathed in pink last week to mark the passage of New York’s law, is the September 11th memorial,” the vice president wrote. “There, the names of all who died in the horrific terrorist attacks 18 years ago are etched in stone — including the eleven unborn children we lost along with their expectant mothers.”
He encouraged Americans to continue fighting for the most vulnerable lives in society today.
“Our commitment to the unalienable right to life is as sure as the stone in which those names are etched,” he wrote. “And our administration, and our movement, will continue to fight until our nation once again recognizes and celebrates the sanctity of all human life.”
