Cecile Richards Quit Planned Parenthood One Year Ago, Successor Leana Wen Loves Abortion Just as Much

Although they were no doubt unhappy at losing a political operative as skilled such as Cecile Richards, the Abortion Establishment was overwhelmingly pleased with Richards’ 12-year tenure at the head of a killing machine that annihilates 40% of the unborn babies aborted each and every year. Consider this was from Dr. Randall O’Bannon, NRLC’s director of education & research at the time we learned Richards was leaving:

When Richards took over the presidency of Planned Parenthood in February of 2006, PPFA’s most recent annual for 2005-2006 reported over 3 million clients, 264,943 abortions (for the year 2005), and revenues in the range of $902.8 million dollars

The group’s most recent annual report for 2016-2017 shows the number of clients served has fallen to around 2.4 million, and there has been an enormous drop off in some of the group’s signature services.

But abortions and revenues? Way up, reaching new heights, making the organization more powerful – and more dangerous – than ever.

Revenues today for this “non-profit” reach nearly $1.5 billion.

And PPFA affiliates began to perform more than three hundred thousand abortions a year during her tenure. Her bloody legacy is that of more than 3.5 million lives lost since she took office.

The latest report (for fiscal year 2017) was also during Richards’s tenure. During that time. we learned that Richards and PPFA didn’t take their foot off the accelerator. Just the contrary: more abortions, less health services.

*Abortions were up over 10,000 from 2016, second most abortions ever performed by PPFA. In FY 2017, PPFA aborted 332,757 babies, at a time when the number of abortions continued to decline.

*Planned Parenthood took in $1.6651 billion in revenues for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2018, shattering shattered its old record from the year before –1,459 billion…

*More than half of Planned Parenthood’s more than 600 clinics are now performing abortions. (In 2010, Planned Parenthood had some 872 clinics with 35%, or 302, performing or at least advertising abortion.)

*Parenthood is now offering “telemedicine abortion services” in thirteen states. “Telemedicine abortions,” or those chemical abortions facilitated by an abortionist interacting with a woman via a webcam, started at Planned Parenthood’s Iowa affiliate in 2008.

*And of course PPFA continue providing less and less real health care, debunking the myth that abortion constitutes “only 3%” of its services.

At the time of the announcement and during the time before Dr. Leana Wen was chosen as Richards’ successor, there were murmurs that some were worried that having a real doctor at the helm might mean a diminution in political activism, particularly in spending tons of money to elect sympathetic politicians. There were even a few stories after Wen assumed command that PPFA might not have the old jest for bankrolling politicians in harmony with Planned Parenthood’s abortion on demand agenda, at home and aboard.

Of course, as you would have expected, nothing but nothing could be further from the truth. Planned Parenthood’s political arm was busier than ever in the 2018 off-year elections and Wen has promised more of the same, particularly in battling pro-life President Trump.

On January 22, 2019, Planned Parenthood issued a statement under the headline “On 46th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood Celebrates State Efforts to Expand Abortion Access.”

As you would expect, PPFA extols its pro-active proposals. “Planned Parenthood expects more than half the states to push positive policies that expand access to health care including safe, legal abortion. Furthermore, champions will join a broad push in all 50 states to protect access to reproductive health care — including fights in the courts, in the ballot boxes, and in state legislatures.”

Wen chimed in, “Access to health care is a fundamental human right, and I can think of no better way to honor Roe v. Wade than fighting to make sure that all aspects of reproductive healthcare—including birth control, STI tests, cancer screenings, and safe, legal abortion—are accessible to women across the country.”

This is the same Wen, who a couple of weeks before, hammered a publication which offered up a hugely sympathetic profile of her for not sufficiently emphasizing PPFA’s abortion militancy. She tweeted

“First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion and reproductive health care. We will never back down from that fight – it’s a fundamental human right and women’s lives are at stake.”

In a word, Richards’ successor is everything the Abortion Industry, and—given that Wen provides the cover of being a physician—more.
