Catholic Priest Trashes March for Life as a “Repulsive and Futile Event”

A Catholic priest slammed the March for Life in a series of tweets over the weekend, despite the Catholic Church’s strong and constant support of the peaceful pro-life rally and the unborn.

Franciscan friar Father Daniel Horan, who teaches at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, called the pro-life event “repulsive and futile” because so many Republicans are involved, according to Breitbart.

Horan claimed the March for Life is just a Republican rally with a “parade of GOP political-speakers and racist high-school students in MAGA hats taunting Native Americans.”

His statement ignores that the March featured several pro-life Democrat lawmakers as speakers this year: U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, of Illinois, and Louisiana state Rep. Katrina Jackson. It also does not acknowledge new evidence that contradicts the heavily edited video of the MAGA students.

The annual march has become increasingly diverse, with left-leaning and secular pro-life groups participating annually. Religious and racial identities vary as well at the march, but Horan insisted that very few “true pro-lifers” participate.

“It’s basically a gathering for many right-wing anti-abortion hardliners (not consistent ethic of life, i.e. true pro-lifers) and teens to get a free trip to goof off (at best) in DC,” Horan wrote.

It is not the fault of the March for Life that there are so few Democrats involved. The Democratic Party has become increasingly pro-abortion. In 2016, the Democratic National Committee approved a platform calling for full support of abortion for any reason up to birth and taxpayer funding of abortions — despite polling showing strong public opposition to both. It did not support Lipinski in the primary, supposedly because he is pro-life; and it even has told pro-lifers they are not welcome.

Many have left the Democratic Party because it has stopped supporting pro-life efforts. Last year, a Massachusetts mayor even publicly announced his decision to leave, disgusted by the party’s demand that unborn babies be sacrificed and their deaths celebrated.

Despite that, Lipinski and a pro-life Democrat state legislator from Louisiana both spoke at the March rally.

Father Horan said he is pro-life. He just does not support the march – the largest annual human rights rally in the world.

Hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers flooded the streets of Washington on Friday to support the rights of babies in the womb. The March for Life is held near the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the infamous U.S. Supreme Court decision that allowed abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy. Since the 1973 decision, about 60 million unborn babies have been aborted in America.
