Parents at a Catholic school in England are outraged after a teacher allegedly told their 14-year-old daughters to take condoms on a school trip.

The Daily Mail reports the school, Chatsmore Catholic High School, had a skiing trip to Italy planned, and teacher Dave Cuthbertson, 53, was supposed to go along. However, he was suspended after several students told their parents about the comment he allegedly made.

Cuthbertson reportedly made the comment about packing condoms jokingly, but it was still inappropriate, The Sun reports.

“Telling underage kids they should bring condoms on a school trip – a Catholic one at that – is disgusting,” one parent told reporters.

The school, which is located in West Sussex, issued a statement that read: “Safeguarding is our main priority. The matter’s closed.”

The incident is another sign of our increasingly sexualized culture. Children are being exposed to sexual materials at a young age, sometimes by schools in the name of education. While the intent of the teacher’s comments is not known, the idea that he thought it was ok to joke about condoms to such young students is cause for concern.
