Planned Parenthood President Leana Wen Says Abortion is a “Basic Human Right”

Planned Parenthood’s new president has decided that killing unborn children is a human right.

Recently, Dr. Leana Wen, who replaced Cecile Richards as Planned Parenthood’s president, tweeted out a statement claiming that abortion is “standard medical care,” and “healthcare is a basic human right.”

From here on out, we want to be clear: Planned Parenthood services, from birth control to cancer screenings and abortion, are standard medical care. Reproductive healthcare is healthcare. Women’s healthcare is healthcare. And healthcare is a basic human right. #ThisIsHealthcare

Soon afterward, she spoke with People Magazine, describing one of her first campaigns as president with the abortion giant, titled “This is Healthcare.”

Wen also expressed her alarm with the pro-life legislation that President Donald Trump has been working toward.

“We are very concerned about the Trump administration’s efforts to attack science, to attack medicine, to attack the fundamental right to health care,” she said while attacking unborn human being’s right to life.

Wen’s statements are highly misguided. The Trump administration has consistently clarified that taxpayer funding would be cut from Planned Parenthood unless they completely separate their abortion business from their taxpayer-funded services. This proposal has been called the “Protect Life Rule,” and while it has not formally gone into effect, Politico predicts it could do so in the very near future.

Furthermore, in May, a federal judge ruled in favor of the Trump administration’s decision to cut off Title X funding for Planned Parenthood. If Planned Parenthood were to house its abortion services in a different facility, with a different staff, it could still receive Title X funds, which could range from $50 million to $60 million annually.

“This proposal does not necessarily defund Planned Parenthood, as long as they’re willing to disentangle taxpayer funds from abortion as a method of family planning, which is required by the Title X law,” a Trump administration official said. “Any grantees that perform, support, or refer for abortion have a choice – disentangle themselves from abortion or fund their activities with privately raised funds.”

However, Wen and Planned Parenthood seem unwilling to compromise. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion business in America, aborting approximately 320,000 unborn babies every year. Its most recent annual report showed a record income of $1.46 billion, with about half a billion dollars coming from taxpayers. If its work is so “lifesaving,” as Wen insists, then it would be in the group’s best interests to comply with the Protect Life Rule.
