U.S. Catholic bishops want pro-lifers to kick off the new year by dedicating nine days to prayer to end abortions.
The annual “9 Days for Life” organized by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will begin Jan. 14 and end on Jan. 22, the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade that allowed abortions for basically any reason up to birth.
The bishops said the intention of the novena is that all human life will be respected. Every day, a different pro-life intention will be highlighted alongside suggested actions, a short reflection and other information.
“In addition to praying for the unborn and for an end to abortion, we will pray for respect for life at all stages: for those nearing the end of their lives, for children in need of adoptive homes, for those mourning the loss of a child through abortion, and many others,” the USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities said.
The prayer campaign also will have posts on social media daily.
The bishops estimated more than 100,000 Catholics have participated in the “9 Days for Life” prayer campaign since it began in 2013.

The campaign will coincide with the annual March for Life, which is scheduled for Jan. 19 in Washington, D.C. The march brings together hundreds of thousands of pro-life advocates who march for the rights of unborn human beings.
Roe v. Wade has led to the deaths of about 60 million unborn babies in America since 1973.
