Last night, former President George W. Bush passed away. The forty-first president of the United States died at the age of 94.

In a press release, former president George W. Bush said, “Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died. George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.”

Bush was born June 12, 1924, to Prescott and Dorothy Bush and was the second of five children. He was the last president to have served in World War II.

He later became the vice president under President Ronald Reagan and served in that position for the entirety of Reagan’s presidency. In 1988, he won the presidency and served a single term in the nation’s highest office.

The National Right to Life Committee told LifeNews.com that it is saddened by Bush’s death and it noted his steadfast pro-life views during his administration as well as his opposition to bot abortion and the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision.

“President George H.W. Bush dedicated his administration to advancing pro-life policies to protect mothers and their unborn children,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “He used his presidency to stop enactment of pro-abortion laws and promote life-affirming solutions. Our prayers today are with former president George W. Bush, and the entire Bush family.”

During President Bush’s term in office, his Administration urged the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and allow states to pass laws to protect unborn children, stating, “protection of innocent human life – in or out of the womb – is certainly the most compelling interest that a State can advance.”

President Bush opposed measures such as the so-called “Freedom of Choice Act,” which would have imposed “an unprecedented regime of abortion on demand, going well beyond Roe v. Wade.”

President Bush used the power of his veto to stop ten bills that contained pro-abortion provisions, including four appropriations bills which allowed for taxpayer funding of abortion.
He vowed he would “veto any legislation that weakens current law or existing regulations” pertaining to abortion.”

President Bush also vetoed U.S. funding of the United States Population Fund (UNFPA), citing the agency’s participation in the management of China’s forced abortion program. He steadfastly refused to fund research that encouraged or depended on abortion, including transplantation of tissues harvested from aborted babies.
