Rep. Mia Love (R-UT) lost her re-election bid late Tuesday by a narrow margin in Utah’s 4th Congressional district. She lost her race for a third term by just under 700 votes. Her Democratic opponent, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, will join the Democratic majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Love just missed the recount margin as McAdams got 134,964 votes to Love’s 134,270. That 50.13 percent to 49.87 percent advantage was just .01 percent outside of the 0.25 percent recount margin.
Love announced in a statement Tuesday that she will give McAdams a call but did not indicate if she would be conceding the race. She added that she’s traveling with family for Thanksgiving and won’t speak about the race until Monday.
“Regardless of how you voted, I want to express my sincere appreciation to you for engaging in the process,” she said. “It is one of many reasons this is the greatest country on earth.”
McAdams declared victory Monday evening before the final results were posted by the state.
“This race was about connecting with Utah,” he said at the time. “This race was about who was best positioned to serve Utah and working to not get it caught up in a national, partisan election.”

President Trump predicted Love’s loss earlier this month in a speech calling out GOP candidates who distanced themselves from him in the midterm elections.
“Mia Love gave me no love and she lost,” Trump quipped. “Too bad. Sorry about that, Mia.”
