Amazing how things so often do come in threes. First, there’s the story published in today’s POLITICO under the headline “Pelosi cranks up push to win over freshmen: The California Democrat is using every trick in her book to take back the Speakership.”
As the headline suggests, there is a Pelosi “charm offensive” to convince the incoming class that they ought to vote for her to be Speaker of the House yet again, even though, as POLITICO notes, “a number of them promised to vote against her when they were on the campaign trail.”
Then there were the results of my daily search for What Happened in History today? Here’s what took place November 14, 2006:
Chosen to succeed Richard Gephardt as leader of the Democratic Party in the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi of California became the first woman to be named leader of either party in either house of Congress.
And finally there is Scott Whitlock’s wonderfully illustrative post at Newsbusters. Tongue in cheek he begins by observing that some might suspect that as harshly as CNN has treated President Trump, “one should assume that the network will hammer the new Democratic majority in the House, right?” And, of course, the answer is no, no, and no again.
Dana Bash asked Pelosi “zero tough questions,” instead focusing on such hard-hitting inquires as, “How do you think you wield your power differently than a man does?”

Whitlock explains, “Viewers are informed that the liberal Democrat ‘attributes her boundless energy to Italian genes.’ Also, as the two toured a chocolate shop, she explains that Pelosi is ‘as strict about her chocolate as she is for standing up for herself.’”
For our purposes, the squabble within the Democratic caucus over leadership positions (and not just the Speakership, it’s other members of the House Democratic Leadership team) is an intramural fight. It’d be difficult to imagine a more determined pro-abortionist than Pelosi who hypocritically invokes her status as a Catholic as a shield without batting an eye. Moreover. many is the time that Pelosi has lectured her church, and even the Pontiff himself, on the “real” meaning of being pro-life.
