A pro-abortion Congressman from California may be the first to officially challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race. The notion of a presidential opponent comes just 48 hours after Americans went to the polls in the midterm election. And he has a disgusting claim to fame.

As The Hill reports:

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is mounting a run for the White House, according to a Politico report, making him one of the first Democrats to challenge President Trump in 2020.

An aide to Swalwell declined to confirm the Politico report, but noted that the three-term congressman has raised the prospect of a presidential bid in interviews and television appearances for months.

The aide said that with the midterm elections out of the way and the recent birth of his second child, Swalwell planned to “hunker down over the next month and consider what to do.”

The California Democrat could announce his decision sometime in the first part of 2019, the aide told The Hill.

But in recent weeks, Swalwell’s allies have talked up his efforts to raise money for Democrats in Iowa, as well as the fact that he’s traveled to the state a dozen times since the start of 2017.

Swalwell is obviously little known outside of California and his congressional district but, according to the National Right to Life Committee, he has a 100% pro-abortion voting record. Swalwell has cast votes against banning late-term abortions and for taxpayer financing of abortions.

His only real claim to fame seems to be when he made a mockery of rape threats against a Republican senator’s female staffer. Swalwell, a pro-abortion Democrat from California, received a massive backlash for the comment and later removed the tweet.

“Boo hoo hoo,” Swalwell wrote in response to reports of threats against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and her staff.

“You’re a senator who police will protect,” Swalwell continued. “A sexual assault victim can’t sleep in her home tonight because of threats. Where are you sleeping? She’s on her own while you and your @SenateGOP colleagues try to rush her through a hearing.”

Sounds like a real winner.
