A group supporting pro-life South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster released an ad this week exposing how pro-abortion his Democrat opponent is.

James Smith, the Democrat gubernatorial candidate, has an extensive pro-abortion record, while McMaster has been a strong advocate for life in the state.

TV ad is running in upstate South Carolina, according to The State. It features Lisa Van Riper, president of South Carolina Citizens for Life.

“James Smith has supported abortion on demand,” Van Riper said. “He personally worked against a bill to ban dismemberment abortions.”

Smith fought against a bill to protect nearly fully-formed, second-trimester unborn babies from brutal dismemberment abortions, and supported amendments claiming that unborn babies cannot feel pain, despite strong scientific evidence to the contrary, according to the ad.

The WYFF News 4 “truth check” reports the claims made about Smith are true. A state representative, Smith recently voted to continue allowing brutal dismemberment abortions in South Carolina. He also is endorsed by Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America.

In contrast, McMaster has been a strong advocate for unborn babies, supporting the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and working extensively to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood of taxpayer dollars. The National Right to Life Committee endorsed him in September.

“You are a strong advocate for life. You support pro-life legislation, including the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would protect unborn children by prohibiting abortion at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion methods,” the pro-life group wrote in its endorsement.

“In contrast, your opponent, James Smith, supports a policy of abortion on demand, and using taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion,” it continued.

South Carolina Citizens for Life LIFEPAC also endorsed McMaster.
