GOP Senate challenger Kevin Cramer claimed the fight over Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation has energized his campaign and helped him pull even further away from Democrat Heidi Heitkamp.

Cramer had already opened up a 12-point lead in the polls before Heitkamp announced she would vote no on Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh was confirmed by a final tally of 50-48.

“Well, I can tell you, having been out across North Dakota this last weekend and week doing my Main Street tour [Kavanaugh] has only enhanced the enthusiasm for our campaign,” Cramer said on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday.

“I had a 12-point lead in the Fox poll prior to the announcement. But I’ve enjoyed a pretty good lead ever since I got in the race in February, but certainly the enthusiasm level has been accelerated.”

Cramer claimed he was shocked by Heitkamp’s vote and said he would have preferred to see her vote yes, even though it would have hurt his chances of winning.

“I’m sure you were grateful,” co-host Ainsley Earhardt said.

“Well, not really, to be honest with you, because Brett Kavanaugh is the perfect Supreme Court justice for North Dakota,” he replied.

“His opinions on everything from Second Amendment rights to environmental law, EPA overreach, I mean, he is right down the center of the plate for North Dakota. So, you know, I’d prefer to have my senator voting for him,” Cramer said.

Cramer said Heitkamp has destroyed her good will and reputation as a bipartisan senator and showed her true colors during the Kavanaugh vote.

“I was surprised because she’s built an entire brand on being the bipartisan senator from North Dakota who reaches across the aisle, who always does what’s right for North Dakota … votes with President Trump when it’s important for North Dakota. And yet, she blew all of that up — all of her millions of dollars of branding, she blew it all up in one vote. So it’s very curious to me.”
