The lingerie shop Yandy began selling a sexy “Handmaid’s Tale” costume associated with abortion advocacy to promote “female empowerment” this fall.

Abortion activists have latched onto the “Handmaid’s Tale” to promote their radical pro-abortion agenda and imply that pro-lifers want to enslave women. In the dystopian novel-turned Hulu series, fertile women are enslaved by the upper class and forced to bear children for them. These enslaved handmaids wear red robes and white bonnets.

British magazine Dazed reports Yandy tapped into the popular series by creating a “Brave Red Maiden Costume” for Halloween. The lingerie costume included a short red dress and cape, as well as a white bonnet.

The company, which since has removed the costume due to customer outrage, explained why it began offering the product:

“Our initial inspiration to create the piece was through witnessing its use in recent months as a powerful protest image. We support our customers being comfortable in their skin, regardless of who they are or what they choose to wear. Our corporate ideology is rooted in female empowerment, and gender empowerment overall.”

The “powerful protest image” most commonly has been associated with abortion on demand. Abortion activists have worn “Handmaid” costumes to state and national protests against pro-life laws, legislators and U.S. Supreme Court nominees.

As the British magazine noted, “Women around the world have used the white bonnet and red cape as a symbol to protest oppression, particularly around the #MeToo movement and abortion rights.”

The company apologized for the costume, saying it thought of it as a sign of women’s empowerment, not women’s oppression.

“Over the last few hours, it has become obvious that our ‘Yandy Brave Red Maiden Costume’ is being seen as a symbol of women’s oppression, rather than an expression of women’s empowerment,” it said in a statement. “This is unfortunate, as it was not our intention on any level. Given the sincere, heartfelt response, supported by numerous personal stories we’ve received, we are removing the costume from our site.”

There is nothing empowering about abortion, though. It kills an innocent, unborn child and often leaves their mothers with a lifetime of physical and emotional scars.
