Iowa voters are voicing their opposition to gubernatorial candidate Fred Hubbell and his strong pro-abortion views.
Hubbell, a pro-abortion Democrat, is challenging pro-life Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds this fall.
He has close ties to the abortion giant Planned Parenthood, having served for many years as chairman of the board of Planned Parenthood of Mid-Iowa. Hubbell also supports unlimited, taxpayer-funded abortions and donates regularly to pro-abortion causes, according to Iowa-Life Right Action.
“Whether it’s his push for abortion on demand, and at the taxpayer’s expense, or bragging about purchasing a building for Iowa’s largest abortion chain, as governor, Fred Hubbell would further endanger our unborn children,” said Jenifer Bowen, president of Life Right Action.
The group recently launched a website, WrongWayFred.org, with information about his pro-abortion record. It notes how Hubbell has bragged about buying an abortion clinic for Planned Parenthood in Dubuque.
Hubbell also described the nation’s largest abortion chain as an organization that does “good work.” Planned Parenthood aborts nearly 330,000 unborn babies each year, including about 3,000 in Iowa. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating whether the abortion chain illegally sold aborted baby body parts.
Bowen said Hubbell would take Iowa backward by pushing abortion on demand.
“We want all Iowans to learn the truth about the direction Fred Hubbell wants to move Iowans — and that would be backward, not forward! That’s the Wrong Way, Fred!,” Bowen said.

Pro-life Iowans have been writing letters to the editor to express their disgust at Hubbell’s pro-abortion agenda as well.
“How can Democrat Fred Hubbell help to pay to build an abortion clinic in Dubuque and, at the same time, give speeches on TV about how he wants to help children?” Davenport resident Ruth Weber wrote at the Dispatch-Argus. “Allowing tiny children to be killed does not help them Mr. Hubbell!”
Writing at the Quad City Times, pro-life Iowan Don Erbst Sr. criticized Hubbell for calling abortion health care.
“In a 1964 pamphlet, Planned Parenthood took an official position against abortion saying an abortion kills the life of the baby after it has begun. Now it says the strong can kill the weak if they are inconvenienced,” Erbst wrote.
In contrast, Gov. Kim Reynolds has been a strong advocate for life. The first female governor of Iowa, she signed a law in May to prohibit abortions after an unborn baby has a detectable heartbeat – the earliest abortion ban in the United States.
Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said Reynolds is a “courageous pro-life champion” while Hubbell is a pro-abortion extremist.
The pro-life Women Speak Out PAC, in partnership with The FAMiLY LEADER, announced a six-figure campaign this week to support Reynolds for re-election.
“The choice for Iowans … couldn’t be more clear: A governor who understands the preciousness of a baby’s life, versus an opponent who will work to ensure that babies’ lives can be snuffed out before birth,” said Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of The FAMiLY LEADER.
