Wednesday’s The Beat on MSNBC displayed the latest example of the liberal media’s tendency to trumpet polls that seem to confirm their liberal views while ignoring other polling which undermines those views.
During a discussion about the possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade if Judge Brett Kavanaugh were confirmed, host Ari Melber turned to pro-abortion activist Ricki Stern and cited a recent Axios poll as he posed:
I wonder what your research and reporting finds when you look at the evolution of this because the Court — if it gets too far ahead of the public — we know can often undercut public opinion. But this is the opposite situation. This is something that has become more widely entrenched. We live in a polarized time, and I’ll show you Roe v. Wade is overwhelmingly supported in majorities.
He then showed results on screen of the Axios poll finding that overwhelming majorities of “suburban white women,” “African-American women,” and “‘never Hillary’ independents” oppose overturning Roe v. Wade.
But when an American Barometer poll was released last week which showed that, when people are asked whether they support more restrictions on abortion, most did, the same show did not find it newsworthy and ignored it. And, as documented by NewsBusters, other polling has previously shown that, when respondents are asked their specific views on how much restriction there should be on abortion, most have views that would require overturning Roe v. Wade to enforce.

Melber then moved on to mocking Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins as he suggested that she represents “the myth of the moderate Republican pro-choice advocacy” for some of her comments on Judge Kavanaugh.
