A pro-abortion Democrat hoping to unseat an Illinois congressman in November recently compared abortions to gallbladder surgery.
Candidate Sean Casten is facing negative publicity this week for also comparing President Donald Trump to terrorist Osama bin Laden, but reports highlighted his thoughtless abortion remarks as well.
What Casten said was this: “I don’t mean to sound overly, I don’t know, hyperbolic on this. Trump and Usama bin Laden have a tremendous amount in common because they have both figured out how to use the bully pulpit to activate marginalized young men.” The Washington Free Beacon obtained an audio recording of the statement.
Fox News reports Casten backtracked on the Trump comparison this week, saying the remarks were “poorly chosen.”
However, he maintains his support for legalized abortion on demand.
During a July debate, Casten compared abortion to a “medical procedure like a gall bladder surgery,” according to the Chicago Sun Times. He also said an abortion should be “entirely a matter of choice.”
Casten is challenging pro-life Republican U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam for the 6th Congressional District of Illinois in November. Roskam has a 100-percent pro-life voting record from the National Right to Life Committee.

Fox News reports Roskam’s campaign blasted Casten’s remarks in a statement this week:
Veronica Vera, spokeswoman for Roskam’s campaign, called the comments “hateful, vicious language” that is “exactly the wrong approach.”
“Sean Casten has called Republicans pedophiles, likened abortion to gallbladder surgery and called Republican Party donors ‘a bunch of morons,’” she said in a statement to the Chicago Sun-Times. “Our communities need a solutions-oriented Representative who can bring people together to get things done.”
Comparing abortion to gallbladder surgery also is ignorant. It ignores the nearly 1 million unborn babies whose lives are intentionally destroyed in abortions every year in America. From the moment of conception, these unborn babies already were living human beings with their own unique DNA. Most of them already had beating hearts. These are not political statements or opinions. They are scientific facts.
