Pro-Life Pregnancy Center Opens Next Door to Abortion Clinic, Abortion Activists Come Unhinged

Pro-abortion advocates expressed their outrage this summer at the return of a pro-life center in New Brunswick, Canada.

After it burned down in 2016, the New Brunswick Right to Life organization reopened its Women’s Care Centre this summer, according to CBC News.

The unique situation about the Women’s Care Centre is its location: It reopened right next to Clinic 554, the province’s only private abortion facility.

Elizabeth Crouchman, the chair of the Right to Life board, said the center has been operating in a limited capacity for two months after the rebuilding project finished in the spring. The center provides women with free pregnancy counseling, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and more.

Many of the Clinic 554 staff and abortion advocates in the province voiced their discontent with the reopening of the pro-life pregnancy center, claiming that it would spread “false information” and women would mistake the center for the neighboring abortion clinic.

“It’s easy for patients seeking an abortion to mistake them for us,” Clinic 554 manager Valerie Edelman told the local news.

They also are afraid the ultrasound machine would be used to “guilt” women into choosing life for their unborn babies. The new, upgraded ultrasound machine, which replaces the one lost in the 2016 fire, will be used by a hired sonographer once the center fully reopens in the next few months, according to the report.

Joyce Arthur, the executive director of Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada, said the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada recommends against using ultrasounds for sex determination only or recreational purposes only. She went on to claim that the Women’s Care Center is using the ultrasound machine for recreational purposes, because they claim it is not an official “medical” clinic.

Crouchman denied that the women’s center purposely misleads women.

“We tell [women] what their options are, we give them information in order to make an informed decision,” she said. “Of course, we know abortion is available…we tell them what the risks are.”

Although abortion advocates claim to be in favor of a woman’s right to choose, they condemn groups that offer pro-life options for pregnant women. This hypocrisy demonstrates that “choice” is attacked when the choice is not abortion.

Some pro-abortion groups have gone so far as to try to force pro-life groups to promote abortion in their own centers. This June, the United States Supreme Court struck down a California law forcing pregnancy centers to promote abortions in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Becerra.
