In a beautiful act of fatherly devotion, a Dutch filmmaker captured brief moments of his daughter’s life every week from her birth to age 18.
The Daily Mail reports Frans Hofmeester’s videos have been popular online for years, and his latest, released on his daughter Lotte’s 18th birthday, already has nearly 4 million views on YouTube.
Hofmeester has released several timelapse videos of his daughter and son as they age. He began filming Lotte not long after she was born on Oct. 28, 1999, according to the report.
“I filmed Lotte every week from the moment she was born,” he said on his website. “She was changing at such a rapid pace that I felt the need to document the way she looked, to keep my memories intact.”

“Other people might make a photo book, but I decided to film,” he continued. “The baby blanket, the white background, was a constant factor. Vince was born (on 23-11-2002) when Lotte was three. Of course I started to film him too. Sometimes they did not feel like it. Then I said ‘Just one minute. Tell me about your ball game, did you win?’ That way I stalled them so I could complete the shot. The films became world famous shortly after publication in 2012.”
